Vaccines

Thanks to Sandra, Andy and I finally got our first Shingrix shingles shot a couple of weeks ago. It was about time, and our doctor will be happy. The pharmacy will remind us when it’s time for the second one.

Then yesterday I received this message from our senior center:

Today a request has come from Aging and Long-Term Services to better estimate the number of seniors that would be interested in receiving a vaccine, through the senior center.

If you are 75 years or older, we are asking for you to REPLY to this email with the number in your home needing vaccines. Simply Reply and a NUMBER. Please DO NOT CALL to tell us because our phone systems are overwhelmed….

They also gave us a link for signing up with the state.

So I replied, said there would be two of us, and then signed us up on the NM site.

This morning we each received this message,

Notice from the New Mexico Department of Health. You are receiving this notice because you are either in Phase 1A or are 75+ years of age. We are distributing limited doses of vaccine as quickly as possible. If you haven’t received an invitation yet, we appreciate your patience. We will reach out in the near future.

Thank you,
New Mexico Department of Health

We’re in no hurry…we’ve done our part and can forget about it until we hear from them. It will be interesting to see how it all turns out.

Nice! It sounds like you’ve covered all the bases. I still remember lining up at school to get my sugar cube in the tiny paper cup. How far we’ve come!

  2. Ginny Hartzler says:

How great that you are now in the loop for a vaccine! We are not so lucky yet. But I did just sign up for the local Health Department updates.

  3. I signed up today to get a text when the Covid-19 vaccine will be available.

  4. The OP Pack says:

I am hoping to get the Shingrix vaccine soon too. But as for the Covid-19 vaccine, our state has nothing out there yet for us to sign up or even be notified when it might be available. Here’s hoping a plan appears soon.

One of my brothers has his date for the vaccine…he is older than us so we have a while to wait…I am more worried about Roger.

  6. Ann Thompson says:

I had never heard about the shingles vaccine until Sandra posted about it.
Sounds like you are all set for the other

I’ve had friends that have suffered through this. Very painful.

Yay for the shingle shot and so glad you got that info and signed up. we are waiting and not waiting patiently…. we are on a list that they draw names from daily and call to make appointment, us and 22,000 others. i hope our county will do something like yours is doing, we are in wait mode…

  9. the priority people here are to be the “front line border workers” which as it should be since, they might be the carriers out into the community if their own health should suffer – I gather there are quite a number of them, considering most quarantine facilities are hotels, the airport, the bus drivers etc and they all work shifts…
I will definitely get said vaccine if I’m offered it, one less older person who could get it if it happens to rage again in New Zealand…

I think peple who interact with customers in grocery stores, etc. should get the shots before Andy and I do, but we’ll see what happens. It didn’t make sense not to sign up.

Good for you on all the medical stuff we old-timers have to deal with. Though sometimes as we follow the news I can’t help wondering what they’re saving us for. ;^/

  11. Linda Sand says:

We got our first covid-19 vaccine injections yesterday. On the form it asked if you had any other vaccinations recently since that disqualifies you from getting the covid vaccine. I wish I could remember how they defined recently but you might want to check on that.

    • Jean says:

We got our shingles shot 10 days ago, so we should be fine. Also they didn’t ask us on our application, but that doesn’t mean they won’t when they send us the health questionnaire. Thanks for the heads up. I’ll let you know what they say on the health questionnaire. It’s all very interesting.
