The secret of happiness is this: let your interests be as wide as possible, and let your reactions to the things and persons that interest you be as far as possible friendly rather than hostile.
—Bertrand Russell
That sounds good to me. I also like this quote of his,
There is much pleasure to be gained from useless knowledge.
Amen to that. Have you acquired any knowledge lately, not because it might be useful but for the sheer joy of it?

Only this morning did I spot this FB factoid:
“The three black lines on school buses serve a purpose. The bottom line is the floor of the bus. The middle line is the seat line. The top black line is the top of the seats. These lines of the bus are reinforced, but they also let firefighters know where to cut in case of an accident.”
I love knowing stuff like this!
I love information like that! π
I learned this afternoon that the Boston Marathon bomber is not confined, as my wife had thought she heard on the news, in the State Prison at Florence, Arizona, but in a federal high security prison in Florence, Colorado. When I told her she said she was somehow relieved since one of our granddaughters works at the Arizona “facility”. I don’t know if that’s joyful but useful information.
I would say that’s very useful information. It must be a huge relief.
I always seem to be drawn to useless information. And for some reason, this is the kind that sticks in my head as well. I still remember all the words from an old Crest toothpaste commercial over 50 ears ago. “Crest has been shown to be an affective dentifrice….”. I won’t bore you with the rest.
I still remember the words to a lot of old ads and jingles. “LSMFT, Lucky Strikes means fine tobacco.” And I hate the smell of cigarette smoke. π
“Double your pleasure, double your fun, with Doublemint, Doublemint, Doublemint Gum!”
Not only does the finding of useless knowledge make me happy but the looking for it makes me even happier. That’s why I live asking Google questions because I need to know all this useless information and a finding of it makes me feel Joy. I can’t for the life of me remember what I found recently and as soon as I type submit I will think of a dozen things
Yes, itβs the search and being successful thatβs the fun. π
I’m good at finding useless information. Both are good quotes.
π
I tried to think of useless information I have found recently and couldn’t remember any, though I know I have learned something. But then I wonder if any is actually useless.
We never know if it might come in handy someday. Either way itβs fun. It expands our mental world.
I’m always open to useless knowledge about squirrels, my favourite animals. I could tell you all sorts of random squirrel facts which would be of absolutely no use to you.
But itβs fun. π
Useless information may one day become important information – you just never know:)
Yes, we never know. π
