Why I Was So Excited

What I didn’t mention about the gazing ball was how far it is from the house. It’s inside the white oval in this picture (to the left of the fireplace chimney).

One of the first things I do when we go up to the land for a picnic is get the binoculars and look for the ball. Occasionally it’s hidden in a shadow, but I can usually spot it. Last week it leapt out at me so I looked without the binoculars. I could actually see it! That was the first time that happened.

Also, I’ve never been able to take a picture of it before, but this time my iPhone caught it, barely, and without the color. Its just a tiny white dot.

Anyway, it doesn’t take much to amuse us little kiddies. Thank you, Beate and Tim, for such a neat toy!

That is way cool! We are just like you…does not take a lot to amuse us any more. Well, actually, never did.

  2. Ginny Hartzler says:

It would amuse me as well!

  3. Hootin' Anni says:

I think I see it…you, too, have it outlined in the first image?

Anyway, that brings up a question…how many acres do you own…AND, do you have a name for your ‘ranch’?

    • Jean says:

Yes, it’s outlined in the first picture, the little white oval to the left of the fireplace chimney. We have 80 acres and we call it “the land”.

I would do the same thing, check to make sure it was still there. wow that is a long distance away, and all that is yours. i am trying not to be jealous.. i love the fireplace . do you use it when you have a picnic?

    • Jean says:

We only use the fireplace now to check the snow level in winters when we have snow. I’ll write a post about it sometime…it’s also part of family tradition.

ps I want to own my own mountain

    • Jean says:

I think you would be lonely up there. Years ago we had someone come up to do something for us. He was taken by the beauty of the trees, etc. but asked, “Are you guys antisocial or something?”

  6. Ann Thompson says:

It’s the little things that can bring us the most joy. Very cool

  7. That looks like quite a hike! Is it accessible solely by foot?
We, too, take great pleasure in little things others may not understand.

    • Jean says:

It’s not nearly as far as Andy’s daily walks. I don’t go to the ball because the trail is rough at the end and I use my walking sticks on uneven ground.

It doesn’t matter if other people like the same things we do, the main thing is we understand that little things can lighten our lives.

  8. I guess if there had been no raging fire, it would be hidden in amongst some trees – but that’s great you could see without the binoculars…
