It Made My Day

Kaitlin sent me this picture this morning. She said the handle broke off a long time ago and today a chunk of the bottom fell out when she was using it. She asked me if I remembered it…we bought it when she went off to college.

I don’t remember that particular item, but I remember us shopping together and how excited I was for her. It triggers a flood of happy memories and made my day.

Thank you, Kaitlin!

Some of my favorite inanimate objects have memories attached to them.
One, in particular, an unremarkable coffee mug I bought on my last trip with my mother.

  2. I think we all have objects that we’ve had forever, sometimes like Kaitlins’ still in use until it finally broke. During the summer, one day it was sticky and hotter than usual and I dived into my t-shirt supply and found one I used to wear in the 1980s – got a few tiny holes here and there, worn a bit as well, but still looks okay…
And it set me off remembering what “long pants” I wore with it. The shirt is white with large yellow circles on it – the pants were bright yellow – and I wore my little red lace-up shoes with it all…and my sox were usually pretty colourful as well…

I think she must have kept it for sentimental reasons. Great memories of the two of you having fun.

    That’s just so sweet.
I totally get why it made your day.

isn’t it wonderful how a photo sent to us from our kids, by messenger or text can make our days? when I get a photo from Daniel, that makes my day. this means your daughter thought of your shopping trip each time she used this.

  8. I have a measuring cup that is so old that you can barely read the print on it anymore. Funny how we get attached to things of little value like that.
