A Beautiful Sight

Why am I so happy about this picture? Last October I wrote about the two Canon all-in-one printers (32 pounds each) and the microwave-convection oven (46 pounds) on our porch that needed to be taken to the eco station. We were no longer strong enough to carry them down the stairs to the car. We also had to dispose of our 40-pound 2009 Mac Pro, but we couldn’t find anyone to haul them away for us. Then last week we saw an article in the local paper about Need A Hand:

From raking leaves to mowing yards, from helping move a couch to walking your dog, whatever you need hand with, we can help you. We are a locally owned business serving Los Alamos county connecting people in need of a hand to reliable workers. Simply purchase a number of hours on our convenient online store, give us the details of the job, and we will send someone to work for you. So whatever the job is, let us give you a hand.

I contacted them and they were willing to do it, so we hauled out the computer, plus some batteries and other little things that needed to be disposed of safely, and added them to the mess on the porch.

Yes, we are thrilled that they are finally gone!

What a neat company! I’ve already been to their website and now wishing we had something like that here in small-town Alabama.

  3. How neat! We need more services like that around!

this is great news, and what a wonderful idea, here in Florida most of the population needs help.. right now we have a 100 lb crate that needs to go to the curb, in the past bob and i could carry it out. now we can’t. so glad your balcony is clear. this would be something teens could do for cash

That’s awesome. I wish there was something like that around here. There always seems to be something that comes up that I can’t do myself and have no one to help out with the job

    OMYGOSH! that’s Great Monk!
young people with strong backs wonder what they can do to earn a living?
THAT is one thing. and it would be so helpful to all of us who can no longer do it. so it’s a Win-Win situation! Lovin’ that empty space on your balcony! LOL!

Nice, I sure wish we had a service like that!

That took me back to high school when our church youth group would have Slave Days when we hired ourselves out to do similar things. We didn’t have set prices; people paid what it was worth to them so even those on limited budgets could hire us since church kids don’t mind not getting paid well when helping members of the congregation. In fact, I don’t have any idea what we did with whatever money we did earn so that obviously was not important to me, my brothers, and our friends.

  10. What a great find! In a previous life I operated a handyman business, and a good handful of my customers were senior folks who hired me for projects just like this. I feel like I’m rapidly heading towards seniorhood myself now, so it’s only a matter of time before I need to secure such services.

We have so many items that need to be hauled away too. Most are in the basement and that makes it hard for us to get them to an easy pickup spot. Most of the organizations want the items outside or in the garage. But we think we can find someone to help too – just need to get the project going:)

Jean, I don’t have your email address, but I know you have been asking about Lightning. He is doing OK. He is a happy boy, but we do have concerns about his overall health since he is losing weight. He has had numerous tests with no conclusive idea of what is going on. If you send me your address, I can go into more detail; it is too much to add here. the oppackATgmailDOTcom
