Sigh. I Liked It Better…

when things were more simple.

I used to love The Great Courses Plus, but they’ve now “improved it’ and call it Wondrium. Unfortunately it no longer remembers me when I use my Roku device, so every time I want to watch something there makes me sign on again.

It’s a pain to do using the remote. They’re aware of the problem and told me on June 11 they were working on it. I removed it and reinstalled it today and it’s still not working so I told them about it again.

Also I bought my recent HP printer because it allowed me to connect to my computer using a USB cable. I didn’t want to have to use the internet to order ink cartridges, print from my iPhone and iPad or our other computer, etc. I wanted to keep it simple.

So much for that idea. When I try to print or scan, the software often can’t find the printer. I have to shut the printer off and try again. It does usually work the second time, but I liked the old way better.

I am pleased that today they asked me to fill out a survey about how I liked it. It was an easy way to tell them.

Anyway, it is what it is.

The nature of life is constant change. The nature of humans is to resist that change.

No sense wasting energy fretting. Just give feedback and move on.

computer problems are SO frustrating. And I hate it when something works well and they they change it, and it gets harderor impossible. Why is it not in the nature of people to leave good enough alone?

I think some people like the new additions, it’s just that I don’t. And I wish they didn’t mess up the simple parts in the process.

  2. Yes, it seems that these folk have forgotten this saying “if it ain’t broke…”

My phone tech dude is helping me via messenger again…today it was about a message from Samsung which would’ve meant the software would probably collide. I thought if I had bought a certain add-on, then the embedded robot would’ve noted that and not sent me a message about uploading something else…by the time I had gotten a reply from him, the pop-up message had disappeared…but I know we don’t need the dual system…

Life is sometimes so complex and that I want to stay under the bed covers and block out the world…

…and how often do they actually READ the feedback, you wonder?!!?!

I don’t have a problem with change. but when change means upheaval in a person’s life (young or old) I call that senseless.
I honestly think it’s to give people JOBS. they love to Tinker with stuff. all the bloggers on Google are complaining. and apparently we will no longer be notified if a new post is up. that happens on July 1.
I think messing with The Great Courses Plus is a bad idea. maybe they thought they’d make more money with the new name Wondrium? it sounds silly to me. tells you Nothing about what their product is.
but this world is being run by a different age with different agendas!
and as you say. it is what it is. either like it and adjust or bow out.
I’ve bowed out as much as possible! LOL

when i was in the workforce, in HR Outsourcing, they made us watch videos several times a year called Who Moved My Cheese, cartoons about CHANGE. they were constantly changing the way we did things and it made us all crazy. you would think i would be used to it, but I still don’t like when they change things up and most of the time without warning us. I don’t know about roku, so was pondering what the Wonderum does. I don’t like using the remote to find things on tv either. when our tv dies, it is 10 years old, and we get a smart TV i will learn how to cast from laptop and I think smart tv can be used by computer in lap or phone. not sure until i get one.

    • Jean says:

Apple has a device that lets us cast from our Apple devices to the TV. Roku says we can but it doesn’t work. I can see the Wondrium lectures on my Apple devices and they know my watch list, what I’ve been looking at, etc. But using Roku, Wondrium doesn’t know anything about me, I have to start from scratch every time. I’ll keep asking Wondrium what’s going on, since things were fine before they switched from The Great Courses Plus.

  6. My printer drivers get knocked out every time Microsoft does an update so I’ve learned how to go to printer’s sight and download the drivers again. Doesn’t take long but it’s sure annoying! I have my main computer hooked up by a USB cord but can also print wireless from my laptop. I’ve never ordered in from HP. When I need it, I go to Amazon or our local office supply.

    • Jean says:

We get our cartridges from Amazon too. I’m surprised HP honored the warranty… years ago we paid over $50 at Office Depot for a defective HP cartridge for our first all-in-one and HP wouldn’t back the warranty because we didn’t buy it straight from them. So HP has improved in that regard.

We actually switched to Canon printers because of that and only switched back a couple of years ago.

I remember being soundly chastized for saying I disliked change. (Note to self: Candor in the workplace is seldom appreciated.)
Now, some 10 years later, this quote from a friend: “I don’t dislike change; I like INFORMED change.”

  8. Ann Thompson says:

I don’t like change. When it comes to technology of any kind it makes me crazy how you no sooner buy something than they are coming out with a newer, better version. What happened to if it’s not broke, don’t fix it?
