We saw a big herd of elk on both sides of the road when we were driving back from the land the last night Kaitlin, Torben, and the pups were there. At one point there were no cars behind us, so Andy stopped while I took these pictures with my iPhone.
That was neat, but the picture that impressed me even more was this one I snapped while we were driving afterwards. (See the higher resolution version here on Flickr.)
When I cropped it in GraphicConverter to zoom in, I got these versions:
They’re not perfect pictures of elk, but I snapped it from a moving car with a camera/computer that fits in my pocket. I was a scientific programmer and when I started we used punched cards we ran on big machines. I’m blown away by some of the advances since then. Wow!

These are great moving car photos. and these Elk ae so impressive. They are HUGE! Much bigger than out White-Tailed Deer here.
Yes, they are huge. 🙂
Pretty. And for me, even seeing pine trees is a special treat!!
I love the trees too. 🙂
Those are great. In the 3rd picture you can see at the bottom the blurred road which shows that you were moving but the top part of the picture is so focused. These really are amazing.
It is pretty fascinating how they keep putting more and more technology into smaller and smaller spaces.
It’s mind boggling.
remeber our fasciantion and 0how we felt way back when they came out with a 10.0 0 instant polaroid camera that instantly processed the photo and spit it out? my aunt got the big expensive one and we got the 9.99 one and were marveling at technolgoy. and now we get quality photos from a cell phone and can instantly show it to the entire world or our family… I LOVE tech stuff and these are truly amazing
My mom bought a Polaroid and was thrilled to be able to share the pictures while we were there. She also wished for something like Facetime or Zoom so she could see us while we talked. I wish she could have done it.
I was a programmer when we had decks of cards we took to the “computer room” – seems like a life far away.
I know! It’s fun to remember that. They were good times too, but I wouldn’t want to go back.
Tom and I were recently talking about that very same thing! Ha on the keycards. High school keypunch class was not one of my brightest moments. A few years later I dated a fellow who imagined one day people would wear computers on their wrists — and people laughed at him.
He was certainly right. 🙂
awesome on both t he photos and the size of our gadgets of today
🙂
Incredible! They were so close to the road.
Where was this? I would guess Pacific Northwest…?
