Just Because You’re Over 80 Doesn’t Mean…

you can’t be an inspiration.

Kaitlin came here not only to spend a couple of days, but to escort us to their place. It’s the first time we’ve flown in about 20 years, and things have changed a lot. She rightly reasoned that we would need help understanding how airports work now with the increased airport security and the greatly-reduced airline staff.

Kaitlin’s seat on the plane was across the aisle from us and her seatmate was flying home from visiting her father in Albuquerque. At first she was sad because she assumed he was now too old to fly to visit her. Then when she saw us she revised her assumption. If that very old couple (over 80 is officially very old) could fly then her father could too! We made her day.

Glad to be of service even now. ๐Ÿ™‚

HAHAHA! you’re a Living Inspiration! (and you don’t look 80 in that pic of you and Kaitlin and Tempi in the swing!)
I haven’t flown since well before 9/11. my next to last flight was spent watching OJ Simpson’s white car being chased on the highway. it seems like an eternity ago! I’ve heard of all the new things that have changed. I would appreciate an escort these days too! XO

So was it a good flight for you? I have never flown in my life!

  3. Catalyst says:

Oh dear. Does that mean I need to fly somewhere now?

  4. Cindi says:

Iโ€™ve flown to Florida and to Vermont many times, many years ago.
Things have changed so much that Iโ€™d be hesitant to fly now.
    Bravo to you and Andy!
Iโ€™m so glad and canโ€™t wait to see some pics of Kaitlinโ€™s new home.
    xoxoxo

  5. Jean amazing, and to have a personal escort even better – I guess coming home, you were pros at the whole thing ๐Ÿ™‚ having such a good teacher…

It’s interesting about age, because here in NZ, yes you’ve old at 80 but not that old, nor decrepit, as there are plenty of 90 year old people still do their thing…abet a lot slower!

I’ve a long way to go even though I’m now just turned 70 this year, but parts of my body aren’t happy at all….

And the other woman seated next to Kaitlin has probably organised her Dad to fly to see her…

I haven’t flown anywhere in over 25 years. I would probably need a lot of assistance.

Checking in and going through security wasn’t bad at all. We wouldn’t have known how to find our gate number on the second leg of the trip if Kaitlin didn’t have her app going there and if she hadn’t told me to ask the flight attendant on the way back.

I had not even thought about how much flying has changed over the years. I only flew one time, on short hop from Savannah to here. flight time 1 hour, and that was in 1967.. I would not know how to even find the airport entrance, ha ha… i have several friends over 80 that fly a lot. or did until pandemic. what a great idea to have her come and walk you through it, or fly you through it. you made that ladies day… I don’t fly or float because of EXTREME seasick stuff. even a small boat makes me sick..

  8. Rose says:

You are an inspiration every day…you and Andy. I always like to come here to see what you two are doing.

  9. Myra Guca says:

Every day’s a school day. Yeay, you!
Now that I’m living near my son and close to dear friends in Florida, I hope to never set foot aboard another jet.

You’re lucky. Years ago Andy said he would never fly because of the increased regimentation. He made an exception about twenty years ago when his younger sister was dying of MS in CT, and now for Kaitlin in MA. Flying is better than the alternatives.
