Well, That Was a Pleasant Surprise!

It was time to get my driver’s license renewed and I was dreading it. In the past there was usually a long wait at the MVD. so I was getting mentally prepared to bring enough things to do while I sat there.

Instead, because of COVID, we can no longer just walk in. The door opens only from the inside. We have to phone for an appointment, then knock on the door for someone to open it for us. My appointment was for 2 PM, but I was told to come at 1:45. When I got there someone came right away and waited on me…I was out with my temporary license by 1:55. I hope things work as well when the COVID restrictons are over.

Fingers crossed.

Goodness, it works much better with Covid restrictions! Maybe they should do this all the time.

in the past we had the long lines also. then they put in a new system, automated numbers, when we go in stop at desk and she types our name in and it comes up with 004 and there is a screen to watch. we sit and when our number pops up on the screen a speaker says 004 to to desk 5.. works like a charm even when a lot of people. we get our license for 5 years, so did not have to deal with 2020. this is also the place we get new titles, change titles, change address on license. its always busy but the past few times we had a short visit like yours

That was a nice surprise. The same thing happened to me when I had to get mine renewed. I thought for sure I would be waiting a long time but it was right in and right out.

y’know I don’t even KNOW when my DL expires! For all I know it may have already. Golly, thanks for the heads up. I hafta go check now. And, I hope that this situation is what happens for me!!

I completely forgot once. They had been warning us ahead of time but stopped. I didn’t realize it was expired until we were visiting Andy’s family in Montana and the subject came up. It meant I couldn’t do any of the driving on the trip back and the gal behind the counter at the MVD was horrified when I told her how long it had been expired.

I’d like that as well. I don’t know when my license expires but Dave’s does 6 months before mine does so I have a warning.

Any day things go smoothly with the DMV is a good day:) I have my renewal coming up in February. Last time was so easy, appointment, in and out, but that was pre-Covid. It will be interesting to see how this time goes.

First, Covid is a terrible thing….
But I’ve definitely found many positive things resulting from following the protocol.

  11. lots of things here in NZ changed as well, but in some ways you then had to have a smart phone or an internet connection…they say a small % of people do not have those things, I know of at least one with neither of these gadgets, always whinging!

I find it so simple to head to the online entities, i.e. for my allowance renewals that are easier than trudging down to the dept of whatever with sheaves of paper… Paying for my online orders … taking a photo and sending it in a message to Heather, of the offending object I wanted to replace, paying direct to her account I owed her. All kinds of so much simpler to do now! I do have some cash in my purse but I don’t need it…
