Tire chains are a pain to fasten, and as time goes on Andy uses a lot more straps but less strong ones.
Last week he was pulling hard on one of the stronger ones to connect it to the chains when it broke. Physics being what it is he went flying backwards. Luckily he didn’t bang his head or hurt his back, but his arms went flailing and he punched himself in the nose and got a nose bleed.
We looked at the strap afterwards.
This isn’t a well-focused picture, but it shows that the strap was cracking in other places too. He’s now bought new straps and will check all the old ones for wear and tear. Lesson learned and another chore added to his already long list.

are you expecting a heavy snow soon?
we get so little of it here that nobody uses chains.
I think they do use snow tires though.
the last time I remember chains was in the Long winters in NY and Minnesota!
we had to put them on early and they stayed all winterlong. I’m glad Andy wasn’t hurt worse. but it was bad enough as it was! XO
It’s supposed to be a mild winter with not much snow. That’s nice for plowing, not nice for the drought.
Oh that had to have hurt. I guess that would be a good reminder to check the straps before you try and fasten them.
Will you be getting snow soon? We were supposed to have some this past week but never got anything more than a few stray snowflakes.
We’re not expecting much snow this winter, but who knows.
oh no…that’s not good at all. Hope the bruise is fading on Andys’ mug…
I don’t think it even bruised, just a nosebleed for a while.
This is why snowbirds exist.
😀
That was never any fun. I dislike winter for so many reasons, and tire chains is one. Hope the bloody nose was the only thing injured.
I tried a different login for here. Maybe that will help you approve me just one time.
I hope that works. I have no idea why it has singled you out. 🙁
I am so sorry to hear this and so happy he was not injured worse than a bloody nose. Fully understated the make do with what we can do thing of aging.. Bob moved from tire chain country to FL the winter of 1970, he said i will never shovel snow or put on tire chains again
I don’t blame him. I haven’t put chains on in years.
Those are some serious snow chains. I don’t think they are legal here anymore. Maybe in the UP but not lower Michigan. We’ve been to your state in the winter and understand why you need them.
We never drive on paved roads with them, just on the dirt roads.
I am so glad he did not hit his head…glad he was not seriously injured, though I would have hated my nose being hit.
I agree that he was lucky. 🙂
What a close call. So glad Andy wasn’t more seriously injured!
Thanks!
