We went up to the land for a picnic supper Saturday so I could take pictures of the gazing ball before the time change.
The gazing ball was in the shadow, so iPhone camera couldn’t see it.
This picture was taken with my Nikon telephoto lens at 4:22 PM. The original resolution photo is here on Flickr.

This one was taken about an hour later, at 5:24 PM. The original resolution photo is here on Flickr.

I put all of my attempts in this Flickr album. In particular I had to try several times to get the later shot because I couldn’t see the gazing ball in my viewfinder. I could see it with the binoculars, and the photo picked it up, but I had to figure out where to focus the camera. It was a fun experience.
Even more fun was a Zoom meeting with Kaitlin. We set it up to see if our new internet could do it. We wanted to see if she could use it with work meetings, to give her more options in the future. It wasn’t perfect because of the satellite delay, but it was exciting to see her, and to know that it could be a possibility now.
All in all it was a great trip.

I don’t know how you ever find it! It’s like a big puzzle, or one of those find it books.
It was a big puzzle, that’s why it was so much fun.
What a powerful lens on your camera. I never would have guessed there’d be a delay on those ZOOM conferences….makes sense. It works tho, that’s the purpose.
The delay isn’t because of Zoom, it’s because our internet is by satellite so the signals have to go up to the sky and come back down.
No matter how hard I tried I couldn’t see the gazing ball until you zoomed way in on it. You’ve got a good eye to spot that.
It helps that I know where it is and what color it is.
I am beyond happy the zoom was a success. I wish i could zoom with my kids, both sons and their wives have only phones and do not want to try techie things.. the view is amazing in these shots and I always think what a great idea the gazing ball is… glad you could get up for avisit
Beate and Tim gave Andy the gazing ball so he wouldn’t have to go down to check that the stake marking our boundary was still there. Part of the trail is steep and she didn’t want him hurting himself.
I have forgotten what the glazing ball is marking. A property line, I’m guessing?
One of the corners of our property.
Would you look at those aspen! (My heart!)
So glad you THREE were able to spend some happy moments together.
We have long phone calls every Friday evening, but this was fun too.
I have not tried a zoom meeting…I keep thinking I am going to get brave and try it with some quilting buddies but never have.
It’s not hard once you’ve done it. You might like it.
