what this picture is. I didn’t remember myself until I read the caption.
Here’s another picture of damage.

wow porcupine another animal not known in this country – was he/she trying to get in or out!
Neither. It was eating the plywood. Once when we came up from the garden we saw one trying to eat the tires on our vehicle. Andy was not pleased. 😀
good grief – here there is a bird that likes to wreck things,https://www.milford-sound.co.nz/kea-the-clever-clown-of-the-alps/
Never would have thought of a porcupine…we don’t have those around my woods! We do have plenty of squirrels though and they can do havoc if they get in your house. My husband hates them because they have destroyed many a deer feeder. Hope that old porcupine doesn’t return!
There aren’t enough trees here now for them to be a problem yet.
Good grief. I did not know porcupines did damage like this. So how did you know it was a porcupine? Wonder if they need to wear down their teeth like rodents? Did it get inside and do any other damage?
It didn’t get inside. They also will eat the bark of trees in winter and can kill the trees.
That was one busy porcupine. Love the view from the shed.
I love that picture too. 🙂
i thought it was a giant sized mouse/rat hole. I had no idea porcupines can gnaw like the rodents do. I assume porcupines are rodents after reading this. I have never seen one and hope never to.. your life on the mountain has been on adventure after another…. thanks for sharing them with us. I am learning a lot I did not know
Porcupines are rodents. Big rodents. Until we experienced them up on the land we didn’t realize what damage they can do.
Wow, I did not realize they coukd be so destructive!
We didn’t either. 🙁
I hadn’t realized porcupines could inflict such damage.
We didn’t either. 🙁
look at all those beautiful trees.
makes one realize again how tragic the fire was.
interesting about the porcupines. I didn’t know that either!
Those porcupines were an eye opener!
That third photo view is simply spectacular. I could totally visualize myself sitting back with a glass of wine and just gazing on creation.
I loved that view too. 🙂
