A large part of it is fire was a natural occurrence there and we humans kept suppressing it so the forests were overgrown. That means catastrophic fires when they do occur. It’s a hard situation.
photographic memories are both great and sad – but at least you have them. And as Sandra has said both of the trees before and later are interesting for totally different reasons.
She was talking about the smell of the trees before the fire. We didn’t have trouble with the charred smell because we weren’t allowed up there for weeks. The fire was June 26, and we, our neighbors, and the insurance adjusters were escorted up there for the first time on July 18th. On July 26th we had another escort so the people who would be doing the rebuilding could see what we would need. Then on August 6 we were able to pick up a key and start going up on our own.
Nature goes in for the long game, doesn’t it!
I’m glad to have my memories refreshed of what it used to be like, thanks.

Yes, a really long game. I’ve been watching programs about the evolution of the universe and the history of life, We humans pale in significance.
so very sad, I like the beauty of both but of course prefer the green trees.
It was sad to lose the trees, but that little shed sitting there all by itself warms my heart.
Wow, it sure is a difference.
🙂
Sad to see all the tree damage, but nature has her own plans.

I’m so glad we took so many pictures, Some of them are poor quality, but they’re still valuable.
it’s all been said. and it’s all true.
both are beautiful in their own way. xoxo
🙂
Oh, my…it hurts my heart to think of what that must have felt like to drive up there in the before shots. And that smell that would have been there!
Yes! We loved it. 🙂
Yes… I agree with Rose. I imagine the charred odor lingered for weeks afterward. Sad.

Stunned. I can’t even imagine the hurt in your hearts when first you returned.
It was an impressive sight. 🙁
