Speaking of Stuffed Animals

Catherine mentioned that she talks to her stuffed animals…she’s not alone. It warms my heart that Betty White not only had pets, she had a room in each of her houses filled with stuffed animals. It was the room she had her computer in and every time she went in and out she would say hi and goodbye.

I only have five stuffed animals, not a roomful, but Iā€™m starting to talk to them too. The truth is I love the sound of my cheerful voice. It makes me happy. Does that sound crazy or silly? Whatever it is this poor old world needs a lot more of it.

They’re so cute, my favorite is the little grey and white one with the long ears. I tend to mutter to myself.

It’s a Jellycat Smudge Puppy that I bought from Amazon. It’s now unavailable there, so I lucked out. Other sites, including Jelly Cat, still carry it.

We have two small stuffed koalas. We don’t talk to them but we sometimes imagine they might be getting bored and will one day pack their bags and disappear.

  3. I have a few stuff bears that I’ve made myself and I don’t talk to them. But I wish I had these past years since my husband died because I’ve lost a lot of power in my voice from lack of use.

You have a lot of people to talk to now. I’m so happy you like your new home, and that you could finally move in. šŸ™‚

I have a few but don’t talk to them. Maybe I should…they will never be sassy & talk back. ??

    • Jean says:

They never interrupt and dominate the conversation, unlike a lot of people I know. One reason I love blogging is I get to talk too. šŸ˜€

  5. I still have a teddy bear from when I was a baby, and a few others – They’re on the cedar-chest that belonged to my Mom, and after all these years, they really more like old friends, and they do know a lot of my secrets.

I Love stuffed animals! even in stores I’m drawn to them to this day.
I always had them as a child. I would lie in bed and they all had to sleep with me of course. if one fell out of bed it would be given the prime spot of being right up close to me so it could get warm again! šŸ˜€ xo

I think the only stuffed animals in my house are toys that Gibbs has. That Jellycat Smudge puppy is adorable. I guess I don’t really talk to stuffed animals but I talk to Gibbs and myself quite often when I’m home.

they are all so cute and the gray one is my favorite, and the tiny one also. then I saw your comment to Ginny and the close up. he is so cute. From childhood to the day I married my bed was covered in teddy bears and dolls. It is great to talk to them, I talk to myself in the mirror, talk to the dog constantly and would talk to bears if I had them. now if they start to talk back, let us know.

  9. I agree! Who needs a two-way dialogue if it makes you happy?
I’ve only 2 teddy bears — Inga and Adele, after my grandmothers — but only speak to our dogs. So far!
    Do yours have names?

We are down to three stuffed animals. All three belong to my Dave but he keeps them in a bin in the store room. Poor things. What a waste! Every now and then I talk about buying one for myself. I’m drawn to a kitten that reacts to your voice and touch. But, they are expensive and I’m not sure I would enjoy it enough to be worth the cost so I keep putting it off. Maybe I should go to the store room and get Dave’s koala bear to keep me company.

  11. It doesn’t sound crazy at all. Enjoy!

I have two cats plus I talk to the dogs next door. The cats love me back..sometimes a little too much and I get kisses from one of the dogs every time I walk over to the fence. They are all I need.

But my grand daughter has a cat and a dog that loves her to.pieces, plus her tortoise. And the dog sleeps with her but she still has a bunch of stuffed animals she keeps in her bed, too. She has always been that way.

  13. well, I’m a talker to myself without even my 2 bears – I spend a lot of time talking to me because I don’t much talk to anyone else real-time and I need to keep the practice. Whether it’s to an imaginary person by my side or like the other day, what is that rattle every time I do something with the microwave, a new rattle – turned out to be some small item in the door of the freezer! “ummm how did that happen…”

having these imaginary chats stemmed right from my childhood which was just as solitary as it is now. My parents were rather elderly by the time I was a talker – both in the 50s. We moved into the township behind a very tall hedge and I rarely had anyone in to play … mostly because of my disabilities.

I solve a lot of my problems and in the process the solitary current person is quite busy with the imaginary folk/objects. I told quite a few “real people” this last week “I live alone but I’m not lonely”
