Not Getting Any Younger

Andy says his overshoes feel heavier than they used to…it’s like having weights on his feet. Thank goodness the season for them is just about over for the year…his walks are a lot easier now.

The overshoes are also showing signs of wear and tear, so we ordered a new pair.

Where I grew up overshoes with those types of buckles are called galoshes. No idea why. My Dave’s overshoes have zippers instead of buckles.

I’m familiar with the term galoshes too. But I was raised in California, so we didn’t need high overshoes for snow.

there are so many New materials out there now.
maybe he can find a pair that are warm and protective and lightweight!
    good luck to him! XO

Even if they could make them I’m guessing there wouldn’t be enough of a market to do it. So far we haven’t seen any.

For me, a LOT of things are heavier than I remember. ?

  4. Rose says:

It has been so, so long since I saw a pair of these!

  5. galoshes are only overshoe over a small shoe – bought in because I believe it was protect a fancy leather or a plimsoll shoe from getting totally wet. I’ve never heard of an overshoe like the ones you’ve pictured. Here many people who grudge around in the wet were a gumboot (local slang) but similar to Wellingtons. And there a varying types of gumboots – some more like safety “boots”

the five years we lived in Kentucky, all 4 of our family had idential boots like these. KY has a lot of red clay and during the winter there is no going outside with out them, we even had to wear them to the OUTHOUSE. we left them by the basement steps and stepped in them in our robes to go down the hill to the outhouse. seeing these that look just like Daddy’s, flipped me back into the fifties

Those remind me of the pair my dad used to have. I’m thinking the best place to find a pair like that would be at a farm and garden place.

    • Jean says:

We tried a couple of those places and they were back ordered for the ones we wanted. So we went to the site of the manufacturer and they had them. They are on their way thanks to the internet. 🙂

I was curious to see if they still sold any that looked like the ones Andy has

  10. We used to call those galoshes. I didn’t know you could still buy them.
