Do You Like This One Better?

I think we agree, we’re uncomfortable with Dryden’s,

Tomorrow do thy worst

Do you like this ancient Sanskrit poem better?

Look to this day!
For it is life, the very life of life.
In its brief course
Lie all the truths and realities of existence:

The joy of growth,
The splendor of action,
The glory of power.

For yesterday is but a memory,
And tomorrow is only a vision;
But today, well lived, makes every yesterday
a memory of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day!

    I like this line…

But today, well lived, makes every yesterday
    a memory of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Oh, and this has nothing to do with nothing … but I love that old, seldom-heard word “splendor.”

    • Jean says:

I like the “splendor of action” too. I would never have thought of it, but it’s a good phrase when we’re trying to get started on something.

  6. Rose says:

I do like this one…a lot.
