Andy couldn’t connect to the internet up on the land a few days ago, so we’ve been trying to debug it with me down here. Yeah, lots of luck with that. I had him bring down his Chromebook in case that was the problem, but it worked fine down here.
It’s over six years old and Google stopped updating a while back, so just in case I ordered a new one…then we went up to the land today for a picnic lunch so I could do some debugging up there. For some reason everything worked perfectly, but I learned some things that will help a lot in the future. When we got home the new Chromebook was here so I set it up and it works fine down here. I’ll go up to the land to connect it with the WiFi sometime soon.
I took a potful of pictures that I’ll put on Flickr, and I’ll be talking about the rest of the visit in the next few posts.
Hurray for blog fodder!

gotta love new gadgets – although I prefer I can open up the box and bingo it all works. I had to have H sort out my new printer as it had a lot of widgets that the old didn’t. I think it was last week, I found I could print direct from my phone camera …
We would be very happy if some of our gadgets didn’t become obsolete. 🙂
Isn’t that the way things always go? You have a problem and then when someone else looks at it, it’s working fine.
Yes. 🙂
That is sure the way of life and technology. For some reason, every so often I havecto unplug the tv for a minute and then plug it back in…usually I do that because youtube quits working. That always seems to be the only thing that works. And of course it is the last thing I try.
Rose, our new tv came with instructions that when it acts up it needs to be unplugged and plugged back in to reboot it, since they are now computers, not real TV’s.
I’ve finally learned to try that first. :).
Your last sentence made me laugh out loud, but it’s true.
How wonderful being able to share the Good the Bad (and Ugly, too) with like-minded folks!
It makes a huge difference. Instead of feeling frustrated we can focus on how we will write about it. 🙂
Yay for the new Chromebook. I do love mine and am so glad I bought it, but I am also glad I can fall back on my Windows 11 All in one desktop. I like the PC with windows for when i get some SERIOUS stuff to do. the CB is only for reading and commenting and diving down video holes. like boxers eating chips. LOL… glad everything worked out and now you have more to Learn and Play or Play and Learn
The only reason we have it is so Andy can send me emails when he’s up on the land. With the old cell phone he could sometimes answer me, but often not. (Now his texts usually go through.) So we have the cell phones so I can contact him, and we have the Chromebook so he can answer if need be. That’s the only thing he uses it for, so we wanted something simple and inexpensive.
ohmygoodness! I’m trying to have what I call The Monk Attitude!
I’m re-learning everything! and some days it’s overwhelming.
half the time I can’t even find my google email!
Patience is the key word for me these days. 🙂 xo
Yes, patience is the important thing, and feeling comfortable when we don’t understand things. Good luck!
Sometimes it is fun to work on all the gadget issues, but once in a while it really gets me frustrated. I am used to Apple products, Macbook, iPad,iPhone. But hubby uses a PC, and trying to solve issues there can be very trying for me. Good luck.
It seems to be working fine. I’m like you, I’m an Apple person and prefer to stay away from PCs.
I know I’m going to need a new Chromebook at some point. I don’t get updates anymore but so far so good. My other computer will stop having updates in 2023. At least Chromebooks are easy.
We weren’t going to replace ours so soon in spite of the lack of updates, but when we were having problems it made sense to make the move now.
