It Was Worth a Try

Another thing we tried, five years ago, was this super duper brush cutter:

We had great hopes for it but it doesn’t work on our rocky, uneven ground. Still, it was worth a try.

I wonder if a space all around the house could be achieved by ‘smothering’ the weeds with a load of stones. enough where weeds simply couldn’t get a foothold/
is that a silly idea? like a scraper or a backhold digger could even it out and then put down the loads of stone! (am thinking how they do the yards in Albuquerque) actually. but it may not even be applicable or affordable on your land!

Oh too bad that didn’t work. It looks like quite a machine.

There is a smiley face on the blade. Looks cute!

Looks like a regular lawn mover. But I see now that it is not!

the beaver blade is smiling and if I were there I would pick all the blooms and put them in vases each day until they were all gone… that is some kind of blade..

  6. What a wicked-looking blade! Is there someplace else it might be used?

PS to TammyJ’s comment: We had those same xeriscape yards in Phoenix, but after a year the weeds still managed to penetrate the tarp and rock cover. Tenacious devils.

Down here in the apartments they put permeable black material down before the rocks. Water can get to the soil for the trees but there’s no light for weeds.

  7. That’s a shame that it didn’t work out. Sounds like a great piece of equipment.
