One Adventure After Another

Life is one adventure after another…we have new garbage dumpsters in our apartment complex.

Andy told me about them this morning and he said they were hard to open. He figured out the latch and was able to open the lid a couple of inches. He was wondering if it would take the two of us to empty our garbage now. He wanted me to go out with him to look and I said, they’re the new bear proof ones the county has been talking about (a $2.4 million project). He should just go up to the land and we could deal with it tonight.

I was curious if there were instructions so went to the county website. There were instructions for the individual roll cart ones for homes but for commercial dumpsters it said,

Information will be provided soon.

There was a number to phone and the gal was friendly but didn’t know the details of the dumpsters …she took my phone number and said she would phone back.

Anyway, I went out and figured out how to unlatch it. Andy’s right, the lids are heavy, and they open sideways. I could only open one a couple of inches. They may be old people proof too?

To be continued….

What next?!! If only some people would think beyond their noses and consider ALL aspects before making them bear proof, life would be easier. What about disabled? My goodness.

I wonder how many people will have difficulty opening the lid and will end up leaving bags of garbage sitting in front of it.

our city has been messing with our recycle and what a mess they have created. i wanted to do a post but have been unalbe to wrap my mind around it and what were they thinking. good luck with keeping it shut, the people who are last will just lift it and leave the stuff with the lid up. we are only supposed to put our big rolling bins out at the curbe with LID DOWN, 75 percent of the people pile the stuff until the lid is stand straight up. waiting to hear if you hear and if you do what they say

The county did phone back. They said for instructions talk to our property management, for help with putting the garbage in the container talk to property management or the senior center for help. So far people have been closing the lid, putting their garbage inside. I’ll let you know if that changes. It’s all interesting. Never a lack of blog fodder.

  4. And by ‘soon’ they mean??? Honestly, I’m stunned; at a loss for words. Please keep us updated!

Sheesh – what were they thinking. There should be some sort of lever to assist with the opening. We agree wit the aboe – soon – define that please.

🙂 They said talk to our property management for instructions. Someone from the office and one of the workers were there yesterday afternoon looking at it and trying to figure it out.

    Well that seems just wrong.
    You could get hurt!
    🙁

We’re being very careful. I went out again last night to practice opening it. I figure if I do it once a day the relevant muscles will get stronger. I’m taking it slow and easy. 🙂
