Poking and Prying

Research is formalized curiosity. It is poking and prying with a purpose.
—Zora Neale Hurston

One of the great things about being retired is I get to poke and pry for the sheer joy of it. I don’t need a purpose. What about you?

I do like to start my research with a question. It can be as simple as looking up a word I read that was not familiar to me. Or as complicated as figuring out what it is my dentist is recommending I do about replacing a bad tooth.

That’s a bit strong, to say it’s poking and prying. It’s serious investigation in order to understand something better.

I don’t either. I just like the fun of finding new things out.

  4. I like trying to find an interesting way to do something – not always via the research word medium but rather “what if I rearranged this…like that”

been auditioning paper and backing papers today – twice slightly wrong, back to the paint room..

Yes, it doesn’t have to be searching the internet. I’m exploring drawing, just a little bit each day. Trying simple figures and just observing what I like and what I don’t.

  5. Ann Thompson says:

My research consists of someone asking something that I don’t know the answer to. I’ll say “I don’t know, lets ask google”…lol

I have said many times, my curiosity rivals the size of the empire state building and that I can’t read a comment or a blog or see something new, that I don’t go poking around to see it. I love this description because that is what I do. Poke around looking it up. there is never a day that I do not use Google search. mine is poking and prying. I want to satisfy my questions and I have many of those

I love poking and prying. Mostly, having the freedom to do so!
