My first meditation is drawing a bit every day, just for a few minutes. I finished the exercises in
a couple of weeks ago and now I’m just drawing for a few minutes a day. I don’t worry about how it will turn out, I just draw and observe and go back to the rest of my life. I have noticed that now when I see people while shopping or streaming videos I often notice their shapes and mentally start sketching them. It’s clearly a great practice in awareness.
The second thing I’ve been doing is playing simple tunes on my glockenspiel.
I’m not even trying to memorize the songs. I notice how I strike the keys and I savor the sounds. Another good practice for staying in the moment and being open to life.
Do you have any meditation practices?

A glokenspiel! I have heard of one, but knew nothing about them except they are an instrument. How are they different from a xylaphone? This looks like a good instruction book on drawing, I may look it up!
Amazon seems to use the terms interchangeably, but one site says,
The keys on mine are steel.
getting lost in the processes of making my kind of art – even when it’s not going according to “plan” (ummm what plan) – and having to decide how to. Today that was doing my layered collages differently and finding that I don’t like the outcome, back to the drawing board (still WIP)
on my short but rather well worn pavement walks where I might not see anything but how far I’ve gone…and returning home, glad I managed something “then”
Good for you for both the art and the walking!
Back when I first became interested in photography I realized that it made me pay much more attention to the things around me even when I didn’t have a camera in my hand.
I suppose my crafting is a form of meditation.
Yes, crafting works too. ๐
Not yet — but I’m remaining open!
Who knows what the future might bring? Being open can lead to all sorts of delightful surprises.
Your words here today remind me of the time a blogger challenged us to look for Shapes, like squares, triangles, rectangles and circles in photos. at first I was not able to find things, but then I suddenly could NOT STOP SEEING them. even after the post was done. I still see them if I think about it. I don’t think I meditate. I do focus on playing with software. I just glanced up and now my floor lamp is a triangle and an oval. I understand where you are going with the art part of shapes. You are really good at finding ways to improve your skills and entertain yourself. you will never find yourself bored.
Whenever I have to go on a trip I always pack my toys first. ๐
I think getting in the flow state with software is a form of meditating too, especially if your body is relaxed and your mind is absorbed.
I should be drawing every day now.
But Iโm not.
But Iโm working hard on my house, decluttering.
I think I kinda meditate while I do thatโฆ.
I would say skip the shoulds. I’m in the mood for decluttering now and I’m really enjoying it. It took a long time for the mood to strike, but it was worth waiting for. ๐
