Perfect Timing

Last May I wrote about hiring someone from Need A Hand to recycle some heavy electronic equipment from our porch. The pieces were too heavy for us to carry down the stairs, so we were thrilled.

I contacted Need a Hand again over a week ago because I had another pile of old cables and other electronic stuff that needed to be recycled. The problem is they are high school kids and only operate during the summer. School was about to start and they already had a lot of jobs before us. They said they would refund our money if they didn’t get to us, so it didn’t look hopeful.

That was fine. This time our things were light enough for us to carry to the car and take to the recycling center ourselves. Except…Monday evening our HP 8600 Pro printer gave out. Andy could barely carry it to the porch. Then about an hour later a fellow from Need a Hand phoned and said he could come by yesterday morning at 9. Talk about luck! If that wasn’t perfect timing I don’t know what is.

We are grateful and happy.

I need to check into this and see if we have one handy. what a great idea for highschool kids, helping others and making money and this was one of the meant to be things that happen.

That’s a great job for kids to do. Earns some money and helps out others. I am so glad they reached out to help again.

Great timing for sure. This looks like a huge, heavy, and clunky printer!

That’s a win, win, win. Good for you!

That also reminded me of our church youth group having “slave days” where church members could hire us to do whatever they needed done. One lady had us pull all the glass bottles from her basement so we got paid to remove them then got paid again when we sold them to the bottling plant to be cleaned up and reused.

I wonder if there is anything like that around here.
It must be the time for HP printers to give out. I was trying to use mine the other day and it kept giving me an error code and wouldn’t do anything. I was too frustrated by that time to look up the error code to see what the problem might have been.

Ours said one of the cartridges was defective even though we had put in a new one. We ordered another one and had the same problem. When we did a search and tried their suggestions they didn’t work. Sigh….

  7. How incredibly frustrating that things are no longer built to last. On the other hand, 3 cheers for those young men!

The printer was 10 years old, so we’re not complaining. We’re buying a lighter one which probably won’t last nearly as long, but it should be something we can handle.

  8. What a great thing to have the younger generation doing a job that helps seniors.

  9. this reminds me, that I’ve a growing pile of such old gear – which was on my list to do if I was going to move – I’m not now as you all know…but that shelf could hold something else better.

I’m so glad to read that you got help.
    I understand about lifting things.
What once was easy, is now so difficult.
I use my dolly a lot because even if I had the strength,
I’m not supposed to lift more than 20lbs because of my hernia.
(But I do roll and “waddle” quite a few things around the house!)
    LOL
