The Nasturtium and the Mullein

The nasturtium:

Andy pulled up this over-eight-foot mullein yesterday when he was clearing a road we often walk on. It had sprung up after the fire.

Notice how small the roots are compared to the part above ground. That’s so different than the mulleins that grow in our rocky defensible space.

    Wow, that’s really big

Oh my goodness! I guess the only reason he was able to get it pulled up was because of the small roots. Still, it must have been a struggle. Is this a record size for you?

this is really odd, long roots close to you and short roots further away. they are pretty amazing weeds. the nasturtium doubled its leave in 2 days. wow

The soil on the clearing sucks because of the rocks. We’re amazed at all the grass this year. Mostly it struggles. I’m asking Andy to keep taking pictures of the nasturtium so we can watch it grow (hopefully!)

  4. Like we used to say as teens, “Heavens to mergatroid!”
