If You’re Not a Data Junkie…

you can skip this post. But this tickled me.

I have my annual physical next week so I had my blood draw Monday. Everything was fine except my creatinine level (checks for kidney function) was a bit low. It was 0.51 and they said the range should be 0.55 to 1.02. I wasn’t concerned but was curious. According to Healthline,

Normal levels vary according to your body size and muscle mass. For example, a normal range for men is between 0.6 and 1.2 mg/dl and a normal range for women is between 0.5 and 1.1 mg/dl.

According to that I’m still within normal range. How funny is that? The internet scores again.

Hmmm, interesting. I guess your doctor really goes by the book!

Learn something new every day. I had never heard of this before.

Stats and numbers fluctuate all the time. One site this…another site that. If I was you, I’d not be overly concerned.

It is not too low from low normal. But it is more about the rate of change if the trajectory is in downward trend. Kidney health is more about avoiding potential toxins, diabetes under control, blood pressure below 135mm Hg and adequate hydration.

  5. Rosentare is right about the trajectory needing to be tracked once you’re in the ‘low’ range. My creatinine level was checked every month through the summer and dropped a point or two each time until finally the doctor decided it was time to do something about it.

the doctor I loved got dementia, I miss her. she always greeted me with, what does the internet say is wrong with you. lets see if I agree. once she said, don’t tell me what you have diasnosed, then after you can tell me if you got it right. she thought it was hilarious. I have to wait a week after I get the labs drawn to see the doc and hear what she says, but the minute it hits the lab site, I log in and read it and do what you did, search anything that has a red mark by it.

I think it’s great that we can check the results online as soon as they come in. I used to wait a couple of days, then go to the doctor’s office and get them printed out so I could read them before I saw her.

  7. Hurray for the internet … better than the Encyclopedia Britannica!
