Water only when the soil dries out. There’s an old saying that goes, “be nasty to nasturtiums.” They like poor soil and not too much water, and giving them fertilizer and lots of fresh water will cause them to die. That said, nasturtiums do need water when the soil dries out. They should be watered deeply a few times a week.

The new nasturtium seeds came last night. I looked up the WikiHow article because the packet of the seeds said they prefer poor soil and won’t flower if they get too much nitrogen. Unlike WikiHow the packet says water daily. It also says the seeds have a tough outer shell and it helps to soak them to soften that shell before planting. We soaked the seeds overnight and Andy will try planting them today. As usual, we will let you know what happens.

I look forward to updates!!
🙂
Well that makes it rather confusing when one place is telling you one thing and another almost the opposite.
That happens a lot unfortunately.
It will be interesting to see their progress…are you going to experiment and water some daily and some not? It would be tempting to do that just to see what happens.
The greenhouse is set up for regular watering and the first nasturtium seems to be doing fine.
Interesting! I wonder how many folks with a ‘tough outer shell’ could benefit from a good soak. (*grin*)
I love it!
Thanks Myra! There’s a lot of tough outer shell going around…:-)
