So far, whenever I’ve used it, it’s got me where I was going. I don’t know if it picked the best route but at least it never got me lost.
That’s great. 🙂
Google’s pretty amazing! All the same, if I was travelling in unfamiliar and/or remote territory I’d be more likely to rely on an old fashioned map.
We’ve seen maps for our areas in the mountains that were wrong too. It’s hard.
I would use Google if the remote area had cell service, but for sure, I’d carry a recent map also!!!
I actually use Google a lot just in the city….our city is large enough, I don’t know how to find a business on a street I’ve never heard of before.
We look things up ahead of time and print it out. Reception can spotty in rural areas.
I use a map and around town I look it up on desktop, see where it is, and if needed write down the route to follow. I tried one time listening to the phone and it made me crazy. it picked the longer route every time. also I despise being told what to do and how to do it.
That’s what we do, map the route ahead of time and print it out.
Not Google, but our GPS once sent us down what should have been a 4-wheel drive road. It’s a good thing my Dave is an excellent driver. I wasn’t sure we would ever get off that loose shale road.
That’s the trouble away from cities. I’ve even seen printed maps that were wrong up in the mountains.
Yes, it has led us astray…once. Nothing real bad…just to a completely dead end. I forget where it is, but have heard family talking about some place either in Indy or near Indy that it has wrong.
Mostly it does okay in urban areas, but not in rural.
Oh gosh. And now I am wondering how on earth (pun intended) they manage to keep it up to date at all.
That’s the trouble with printed maps too. 🙂
well, I don’t have a vehicle
but if I want to go to a new part of town, I’ll check the google maps beforehand on my laptop – get the general gist of where and then hope it works out fine.
the problem though, last time, was it was a very steep street!
Good point! Google doesn’t warn walkers about that.
Yes it has! Recently my husbands keeps saying “rerouting!”
