I Love It Here

Andy’s perishable Christmas present from Kaitlin and Torben was delayed, but it was supposed to get here yesterday. Instead FedEx marked it as delivered Tuesday with the above picture. That was clearly our apartment complex, but not our apartment because we have a doormat. So last night I went and checked in front of the doors of the other three apartments in our building but it wasn’t there. We figured if it went to another apartment, and the occupants hadn’t left for the week, someone would tell us. Fortunately, it was in front of one of the apartments across the parking lot and Andy saw it this morning and brought it home. It was still in good condition.

FedEx’s taking a picture gave us valuable information, and we love not having to worry about porch pirates. We don’t take that for granted. Apparently in the Bay Area now police won’t do anything about them, even if the owners can prove who stole their packages. Kaitlin says in one case a child had saved money for the stolen item and the parent had to convince the thief to give it back. How sad is that, and how lucky are those of us who can trust our neighbors.

  1. I’m not sure if it’s regulation here or not regarding photos but often, our local f/b page will have a question “have you got my package, the xyz courier company says it’s been delivered to you?” except it hasn’t

Hilarious delivery to me this morning – I ordered both vacuum cleaners and some space v/bags. But they are definitely not together as the “bags arrived” but not the actual vacuum cleaner!

I had (message one) yesterday to say the bags had been packed and collected by courier. Followed a few hours later (message two) to say they were “boxing up my v.cleaner” – still not got anything further on that matter!

    • and out of the blue, the new “blue vacuum cleaner” just turned up – not sure why the technology system failed. The lass put on the carpet inside the front door for me.
H is coming tomorrow, a problem with putting the wand together, I need to “squeeze and press down” a part and my hands don’t do that well anymore

I hope the new one works a lot longer than the old one!

we only have problems if fedex is the delivery service. they are a horror. famous for delivering to address, and once we had package they said they delivered and it was missing in action for a week and it was faucets to be installed by plumber on a certain day. i went to home depot and purchased it and he installed them, the next day a woman ran up on the porch and threw the wet faucets on the porch and drove away. she had it for a week. what a mess. i don’t use fedex, but that is the one home depot uses, so i informed them we would not be odereing from them again. no pirates so far. UPS and USPS and Amazon all deliver as promised. glad you found it and it was cold enough for the package to remain safe. it is a blessing to live in your neighborhood.

I love that they are taking pics now, and they send me an e-mail to tell me it has been delivered. WHY won’t the police take action if you know the thief??

How fortunate! All the time we’re seeing on social media where folks are searching for their packages. These drivers are so stressed to deliver faster and faster, I’m surprised there aren’t more mistakes.
Doesn’t make it right, but still….

I love living in a secure building where deliveries are made to the dock and security delivers them to the apartments. Now, I only worry about the ones that bounce from one delivery service office to another until one finally agrees to deliver them to us. At least the tracking info tells me which office has them now.

I worry about my neighbor with whom we share this duplex. She gets a lot of deliveries from Amazon and FedEx and whatnot and she’s at work all day. But I guess so far she’s been lucky.

  8. In some area they are changing laws—raising porch pirate crimes to felons so they people can bring them up on charges. Glad Andy’s delivery was still good.

  9. Ann Thompson says:

Glad you were able to get your package back. I like that they take the picture but in most cases, if it were delivered to the wrong place, they don’t show enough in the picture that I would be able to find it.

    • Jean says:

It didn’t tell us which apartment, but at least we knew it was delivered around here. And it told us it wasn’t our apartment because ours has a door mat.

I live on a long Main Street. There’s been porch pirates on both ends but I’ve been lucky. Also I have them set my packages inside my enclosed porch… and the fact that I’m home helps I’m sure.
I’m so glad Andy got his package!

    • Jean says:

You should be fairly safe. I read in a local online newspaper that they caught a porch pirate in town because of home security cameras. That should discourage some people from trying it.

  11. I’m glad you found it. Enjoy your weekend and Happy New Year!

We bought a smoker for my husband’s son. I waited at home for it to be delivered. It wasn’t, but it is an awfully busy time of the year, and so I figured it would arrive the following day. Except when my husband got home, he tracked the package and saw that it had been delivered. We looked out behind the house. Out at the garage. Nothing. So I called the company as an FYI. The customer service person told me quite business like, “It’s been delivered and it is behind a black metal lawn chair with a cushion. The patio is gray and the house is white with a gray foundation. I said, “Well, that would be a problem. We have a yellow house and no patio or patio furniture.”
