It Doesn’t Take Much

The kids were learning about traffic lights and when one little girl was quizzed, she said,

Red means stop,
Green means go, and
Yellow means step on the gas.

I laughed at the time and remembered it the other day when Miss Manners was discussing how different people can have different interpretations of rules.

For example, we all know that a red traffic light means “stop,” a green one means “go,” and a yellow one — well, there seems to be some confusion here. Miss Manners knows people who think it means “speed up,” but traffic police disagree.

I laughed again. It doesn’t take much.

I have heard the miss manners version my whole life, bob believe it, I do not. he yells when I stop for the yellow light and the people behind me always blow the horn at me

Tom and I are basically opposites. I’ll usually stop — but that’s provided other cars aren’t close behind me. Being rear-ended isn’t any fun.

That little girl was pretty right, for most people!!

  4. I really dislike when people speed up at the yellow light.
That’s a cute story you shared.

I don’t speed but don’t stop if it means slamming on my breaks. I assume the people who set the timing knew what they were doing.

I’ve seen that before but out of the mouths of babes, it’s funnier.

  6. well there’s another difference

the yellow light there is not yellow here, it’s the ORANGE light!

LOL. I’ve seen people who don’t even understand that red means stop. Yesterday morning when I was going to work I saw a guy go through the red light. Now mind you this is at 5:00 am and there is only one stop light in town and very little to no traffic. I think that time of day a lot of people treat it more like a stop sign.
