Just One Thing?

Myra ended yesterday’s post with the sentiment,

I think that’s a great idea, but only one thing? My version of that saying is a question. And sometimes I ask it more than once a day:

When I put this in my comment to Myra I added,

Unfortunately the answer is very seldom “housework.”

But, in fact, we live in a low-maintenance apartment. It’s not fancy, but it has three bedrooms, so there’s plenty of space for the two of us, and it’s a carefree lifestyle. I love being able to decide how to use my time. That’s why studying Spanish has been so much fun. There’s a lot to learn, but I’m not taking a class with tests. I just look at the multitude of choices I have and do the one that sounds the most fun at the moment. (I still do one Duolingo exercise a day to keep that streak going.). That’s made it incredibly easy to keep enthusiastic and motivated. So in spite of the extended heat spell, this has been one of the best summers of my life.

I did do one thing that made me happy yesterday, i played in AI for 1/2 hour, i have not touched it for almost a week. Microsoft might think I don’t like it anymore. oddly enough, I forced myself to go with my cousin to a memorial service for our cousin, and it made me happy.

  2. Most days, I can always see at the end of it , that I did at least one thing that made me happier. Even if it wasn’t exactly physical.

I’ve been working through a number of issues for some years, and especially since this last year. I had reached an “end” (in late July( which meant, I could start to look forward. But I’ve been idling there, until I had the major revamp/sort up of mainly art stuff in the last few weeks. Suddenly, something is percolating in my mental world of “where to…” – a long way to go before there is something concrete…but I’m happier.

Some things can’t be rushed. Our subconscious minds are sorting things out even when we can’t see what it’s doing. 🙂

    I think that’s wonderful!
In retrospect, I think buying a condo would have been in our best interests. The upkeep on our grounds is taking its toll on Tom, particularly in the heat and humidity. Like Sandra, I’m happy to play on the computer … and so thankful to be retired — not expected to perform like a trained monkey.

Yep, one thing a day (at least) that makes you happy is a great idea. Of course going to work doesn’t make me happy but I have to do it any way. Unfortunately sometimes I’m too tired when I get home to do anything. I suppose on those days napping would make me happy 🙂

  5. That’s good advice. I need to try it!
