A Kindred Spirit and Role Model

From Angus in Scotland:

We’re early enough to have the beach to ourselves with the exception of Archie the arthritic Labrador and the lady with the Pomeranian. We offer Archie’s owner the dog ramp so that he can get up into the back of the car more easily. She says she bought an Audi estate with a low back sill so he could manage but now even this is getting too much for him. I shall get the ramp out of the garage today and take it down to her tomorrow. Archie is at that happy stage where he takes life as it comes. This morning he’s found an old tennis ball on the beach which he clutches in his jaws with a palpable sense of pride.

Archie and his ball reminds me of me and my Spanish and other toys. I’m lucky enough to not have arthritis, and my playthings give me delight rather than a sense of pride. But I still think of him as a kindred spirit and a great role model for aging.

Thanks, Angus!

I want to be like Archie. I try but some days I just feel too old…lol

I suffer the arthritis, which means I know how much that ramp will help Archie. I have been looking at one for Beau but they don’t fit our doors. in the midst of researching. he gets in ok, it is the getting out that can harm him. I love an empty beach with nothing but a few humans with dogs.

  3. Love the story you shared. Enjoy your day.

  4. I always marvel at dogs’ joie de vivre. Years ago I was fretting over pending test results, then glanced outside my car window to see 3 pups playing and laughing (yes), not a care in the world.
Not for the first time I thought, “I want to be like a dog.”

  5. Dogs are so funny when they find a ball or stick they like. Sense of pride and whimsy is a good way to describe that look.

  6. Ginny Hartzler says:

So sweet! I have very bad arthritis, and need nerve ablation as well.

  7. Linda Sand says:

I have mild arthritis in my fingers but that doesn’t keep me from playing online jigsaw puzzles. Life without play would not be life.
