Sometimes It Pays to Make a Fuss

Yesterday morning Andy handed me a receipt that he would need at a store to pick up his items. He said he was giving it to me to save because he wouldn’t remember where he put it.

No problem. I decided where to put it and then made a big fuss, getting my whole body into it, raising my voice, saying, “I’m going to put it here, right here! I’m making a big fuss so that one of us might remember where it is.”

Does that sound silly? In fact something similar had happened a few weeks ago. I was in the car when Andy came out of the pharmacy and asked, “Where should we put these pills?” I made a big song and dance about putting them in the glove compartment. Later in the day when he asked where the pills were my first reaction was, “Pills? How should I know?” Then I remembered and told him where to find them.

Sometimes it helps our memories to make a big fuss.

  1. ummm maybe I should have “fussed more” when I put away one of my new art tools and now can’t find it!
It’s orange and thin type of plastic and has “holes” in it at different sizes – it’s bigger than the little one I already had!!!

we call the look for what we put away to KEEP until needed, the egg hunt. we usualy both get in on the egg hunt. I will try making a big fuss and see if that happens.
I will share what I do in some cases. I bought bright neon pink one inch post it notes. they live by the phone in the kitchen. Yesterday when I went in the kitchen, Beaus Montly med box was on the kitchen counter with a PINK not on it. I do it by my computer. stick the pink not on what ever I need to remember. maybe put a pink not where you put things with the word PILLS. I sometimes put one on the middle of the steering wheel, so when i get in the car I know what I am supposed to do, where to go..

What a clever idea! I’m going to start doing this … at least to provide comic relief for Tom.

I use the notes app on my phone to make to do lists. Maybe I should use it for where to look notes.

This is us for sure! But I never thought of this idea, how cool!

  6. Ann Thompson says:

I’ve never thought of doing that but it makes sense.

I, too, am going to begin making a “fuss”! Great idea for we seniors.

I like this. I say things like “Look at me putting extra meds in the bottom drawer, look at me.” Note: I am talking to myself but it reinforces the place. I always put keys in their special place now as I have wasted far too much time in the past searching for them.
