The Kurt Vonnegut quote I posted Tuesday,
I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, “If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.”
reminded me of one I like even better. I came across it several years ago, and I don’t know who to give the credit to, but it says when something lifts your spirits, makes you happy, you should imagine someone saying,
Do you like it? I made it just for you.
I don’t know why it works for me, and it may not for you, but when I have tried that my joy went through the roof, I felt deeply loved.
It reminds me of when Kaitlin was about 3 or 4 and we had to buy a present for one of her friend’s birthday party. When I bought it Kaitlin wanted a present too, so I bought her a coloring book. When we got home and I was wrapping the friend’s present, Kaitlin wanted me to wrap hers too. So as she was watching, I folded the side and top of the bag behind the coloring book and taped it so it looked like a present. Then I stuck a pre-made bow on it, smiled and handed it to her.
She was overjoyed and said,
Oh! A present? For me?!!
Overjoyed. I’ll have to try that again.

Love it!
🙂
This is such a sweet story! And it makes me think that God made the sunsets and beauties of the world just for us to see.
Yes! I think that when I see your pictures and read your posts.
Now I wonder how often I’ve ‘forgotten’ to express thanks for my ordinary extraordinary blessings.
I love that story of Kaitlin and the coloring book!
She cracked me up when she acted so surprised. Somehow she had already learned how to respond to a gift.
oh love Kaitlin and her “present”
🙂
What a sweet story. I love the quote too
Thanks.
