Is Happiness Contagious?

Happiness is contagious. Be a carrier!!
— Robert Orben

Do you agree with that? Not everyone does. About 30 years ago a friend looked at me strangely and said,

Maybe you do know something, Jean. I always thought you were so happy because you were stupid.

I’ve treasured that quote ever since, it still makes me laugh.

I know that laughter is contagious, it is hard to keep from laughing when hearing others laugh. Happiness is another story. Happy comes from within. that said, I would rather be around happy people than sad. their may be some truth in the quote.

  3. Myra Guca says:

Yes, I do agree with that quote.
On the other hand (like Catherine), I’d have been way taken aback by your friend’s remark!

  4. Linda Sand says:

Ignorance is bliss? I’ve done some things I maybe shouldn’t have done because I didn’t know enough to be scared. But, doing them made me happy.

  5. Ann Thompson says:

I think happiness is contagious. Then again there are times I’ve been in a really bad mood and someone overly happy just annoyed me.
That second quote is pretty funny

  6. Bruce Taylor says:

Your friend was the one who was stupid!

  7. The OP Pack says:

Are you sure that was a friend? I agree with the quote. A smile is also contagious and can make another person’s day so much better – just a little gesture.

  8. I’m not sure about the quote but I certainly don’t like what your friend said to you.
