Hurray for Levers!

Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.
—Archimedes

So, having solved the problem of the backup camera cover, Andy decided to check that he could turn the lug nuts on a tire if he ever need to change it. He first tried this wrench,

but he wasn’t strong enough to move the lug nut. So he added this long piece of pipe for leverage,

and it worked fine. Hurray for tools, and for Andy checking it out now, just in case.

That comes in handy, sometimes! Itis a trick I learned from Roger years ago…when he was helping someone change a tire.

  2. I knew that trick years ago, but forgot until reading this post. Hope Andy never needs to use it but given where he drives, it’s really good that he’s prepared.

That’s a great idea! I love Andy’s ‘just in case’ thought process.

He Mcgivered it! Very creative. So if the cover is on all the time, how can you use the camera? Aren’t I just so annoying?

Look at the third-to-last picture in the previous post. The camera cover protects the sides of the camera, but the hole doesn’t obstruct the camera’s view. You can see the camera lens (the little circles) in the center of that third-to-last picture.

And for having a solution in his back pocket. That man truly amazes me.

  6. Very smart and it’s good to have a plan you hope to never use!

    Good thinking and planning, Andy!

great idea, bob has done this before on several things. he says when the garage puts tires on they use the power drill to tighten instead of their own strength and it takes a lot to break them loose. hope he doesn’t need to do it but glad he can. the new jeep has been a new learning experience for all of us and fun

Power tools vs human strength, not a fair match. But not as bad as a friend of mine years ago. She had her tires rotated and one of the wheels fell off the car when she was driving home. Fortunately she was all right.

I doubt that I would ever think of doing something like that if I needed to change a tire. Come to think of it, I have never in my life ever changed a tire. Someone else has always done it for me.
