So Much for a One O’Clock Appointment

We had to go to Santa Fe yesterday for another of Andy’s eye treatments. We had managed to get a one o’clock appointment and hoped it would be quick (no more than an hour). Unfortunately it didn’t help. It still took two hours, mostly sitting and waiting with a lot of other people. He has two appointments in July, a 10:50 on July 15, and a 10 o’clock on July 17. We’ll have to see if the 10:50 is better than the 10 o’clock.

At least I don’t have to spend the whole time in the car like I did during Covid. There’s a place I can go inside the building if it gets hot in the summer. The main thing is they are saving his sight, so we’re grateful and not complaining.

  1. awesome to saving ones’ sight – apologies friends (not just Jean) not keeping up blogs right now.

I am glad his sight can be saved. And glad you dont have to wait in the car!

  3. Myra Guca says:

Perspective’s everything! Crossing my fingers next time you won’t have such a long wait.

  4. Ginny Hartzler says:

I do not remember what his eye problem is. Maybe you talked about it before I met you? But my memory seems to be getting worse. Is it Macular Degeneration? Is he having the shots? I have this, but have not gotten to the point of injections yet.

For me, usually 1:00 appointments work because that’s right after lunch so there’s no backup. Sorry it didn’t work for you. Glad there is something they can do, though.

  6. MadSnapper says:

I am happy they can help with his sight and this seems to be a common thing here in the USA of making appts and wait and wait.. I found the 1 was quick at one doctor, because i was always the first after lunch.

My husband has multiple eye doctors and appointments. Over the years he has learned toen get ask for the first appointment of the afternoon (or morning) and then get there very early and hope they take him first. A lot of offices book multiple people for the same time slot which makes no sense at all.

  8. That is very frustrating though but I’m so glad the treatments are helping.

  9. Ann Thompson says:

I’m glad there’s a positive side and the treatments do help him. The waiting is always horrible though.

  10. I know how frustrating that is. So many doctors overbook their appointments. We have stayed with our primary doctor for 35 years now and only one time was there an issue with waiting. However, I don’t like that they now have to send you to other doctor’s when they used to handle all of your ailments.

I think these eye doctors come up from Albuquerque, two hours away for us. We’re happy we don’t have to drive down there.

  11. Linda Sand says:

I once had a boss who would call and ask the doctor’s receptionist how far behind he was so she knew when to actually go.

I’m sorry to read about Andy’s problem with his eyes. I just had a cataract removed last week — My appointment was for 2 PM, and I waited for over 2 hours because I was the last patient of the day. But I was grateful it was an easy procedure and I had a week off work too because of a concern of driving with any blurred vision — Apparently that can be an issue in rush hour traffic! 😉
