Does Anyone Else Still Use AOL?

Andy and I have used AOL for years, and I was surprised a few years ago when a friend laughed because I was so old-fashioned to still be using it.

So, does anyone still use AOL? The answer is yes, but the numbers are significantly lower than they were in the 1990s. According to a report by the Pew Research Center, in 2020, only 1% of American adults used AOL as their primary ISP.

However, AOL still maintains a loyal user base, particularly among older adults who are familiar with the service and prefer its simplicity. In fact, a survey by the AARP found that 1 in 5 adults aged 50 and older still use AOL as their primary email service.

Both Andy and I also have gmail accounts, but AOL is the one I use the most. Which mail service do you use?

Of course I’m not using your kinda of national service.

But when I came online there were very few servers here in NZ. I’ve chopped and changed over the years but for email, I’m with Gmail.

Many of the older generation use Spark which was linked onto the previous landline system. It was suggested you use them. But as digital and technology changed Spark thought everyone would be happy to be with them

Enter “fibre” and it was easier, you could have any server. I was with Orcon before I came here. Now I’m automatically with wifi via the house, no idea what that is.

That still allows me to use whatever browser I.want and Gmail

For my smartphone I use “pay as you go” with oneNZ (previously was Vodafone)

  2. This is too technical for me.

    God bless.

I started with AOL when we first got a computer. That was back in the days of dial up. I’ve had several different providers over the years but I eventually started using google and I’ve stuck with that.

    …AOL fell off a cliff!

  5. I started with the dial up AOL – but not anymore.

  6. I also started with AOL dial-up but that has gone by the wayside. I use Safari
and Chrome. I have iCloud for email. I got a gmail account when I first came to blogger but I don’t use it.

  7. We use Google Chrome.
