Yesterday’s post was,
Have you ever wished you could return a day for something better?
I was surprised when Tom wrote,
β¦donβt be a downer.
I thought the comic was funny and wondered if anyone else felt the same way. So instead of asking people about past or present bad experiences, I should have written,
Does anyone else think this comic is funny?
Shug’s comment to the post was,
Oh yesβ¦there are those days, but yet I know that even in the days that I wish I could trade out, the Lord is teaching me something..
Her comment, and the Shoe comic, reminds me of about 35 years ago, when both Andy and I were in danger of losing our jobs — both the divisions we were in were having serious financial problems. It was scary, of course, but I also remember it as an exciting and happy time. (See my 2007 post, What I Learned From Being Down-Sized.) I turned to my favorite empowering question,
What’s the opportunity here?
and to my favorite prayer for times like those,
Thank you, Lord, for the opportunity. I sure hope You know what You are doing.
Life can be challenging, and sometimes it sucks. But — if we can do it — having a sense of humor helps a lot. In my mind it’s up there with curiosity as a superpower.
What do you think?

I thought the comic was funny as well. And I can see the other perspective.
π
…as I got older, every day is a gift!
π
I think the comic is funny and sometimes true!
π
I thought the comic was funny, too. It brought back a 1980-something memory of one of my favorite co-workers who remarked, “If today was a dress, I’d return it.”
Your favorite prayer makes me chuckle!
π
I did think the comic was dark humor. But not a downer! I love the perspective of looking at changes as an opportunity and praying to have the discernment to know the best one.
π
I thought it was funny and also commented I would like to return the year of 2025 and meant it. we all have downer days so that is true too.. I even have things I SAY OUT LOUD, that I wish I could return them and wipe them out… will not happen of course. this is just more proof we all see with different eyes and hear with different ears.
We have to figure out what works best for us. And sometimes we are completely overwhelmed. I wouldn’t have the stamina to do what you are doing. It’s just not there.
I found the comic funny. I think the bad days are necessary to show us how much we should appreciate the good ones. Even the bad times teach us something or give us experience for the next phase in life.
π
I found it funny – I think all jokes have a bit of truth to them – don’t you?
Yes. That’s why i read certain comics every day. π
I found it funny but true. I think a sense of humor is absolutely required to get through this life. Dave and I laugh at lots of things every day. Even being stuck at the hospital because we both rode there in the ambulance and it was too early to call anyone yet. At least they had free wifi so our devices were able to keep us entertained while we waited. Lots of funny stuff happening out there.
Andy and I laugh a lot too. Especially when things go wrong and we bumble along trying to fix them.
