I Will Have to Wait

I still don’t know what will happen with Betty’s project — this was the strip for yesterday.

Signs of the times. But her son is right — we need to understand how to write good prompts in search engines and AI apps to get the information we need.

And schools need to adapt — they need to teach kids how to use AI intelligently. I use AI a lot to question some of the articles and videos that compete for my attention. A good AI program is based on reputable sources and tries to tell me which part of an article or video is based on fact, which is plausible conjecture, and which (if it happens) is fantasy. And it reminds me not to believe its conclusions — it makes mistakes. Check things for myself.

AI can deepen thinking rather than replace it, so I think AI shouldn’t be banned at school. It needs to be integrated into learning.

    Just like the calculator!

…I’m still a bit out of the loop!

  3. I agree. It’s added a new dimension to my life. And kids do need to be taught how to use it correctly because like anything else that’s ever been invented, it can be misused. But sadly in our peer age group there are a lot of individual that think its akin to the devil. At least that’s the way my peers seem to feel.

anything can be used for the Satan’s use, even the Bible. AI is here to stay and just like I did with the smart phone. I had a little flip phone that all it did was allow phone calls, in my car, never came in the house, there for emergencies until 1 day I gave in a bought a small very cheap TracFone smartphone and a year later another and another and another.
I don’t use AI except for search or images but that is because I don’t have enough time in the day..

I agree! Many things are only as dangerous as their user.

  6. Hmmm, I wonder if that project is going to happen at all!?!?

  7. Ginny Hartzler says:

I agree! But it does make us kind of lazy at times. We go to it for fast answers instead of doing deep research. But I still use and love it.

  8. Ann Thompson says:

I enjoy using AI. Prompts are very important. I sometimes have a really hard time with them.

  9. I love to use AI, but it can be used wrong too. So even if you teach them how to use it – how will you make them use it right?

  10. Christine says:

We have to get with the times, good one!

  11. I never use AI and I do worry about James growing up with it. I worry about the future for the kids and also the people who are losing their jobs because AI can take them over.

    • Jean says:

I’m guessing James will do just fine. He’s very smart, and I’m pretty sure he will learn to use AI intelligently.

  12. Linda says:

I have not used AI even once yet! I am still kind of unsure about it all. I do prefer to do searches on my own, and since this is the way I have always done it, I am just uncomfortable about it all.
