No, I’m not talking about the Scandinavian midsummer — a few days from the solstice — that celebrates the days of maximum sunlight. I’m talking about the middle of the meteorological summer (June, July, and August). That summer is 92 days long (30 + 31 +31). So yesterday was the end of the first half, and today is the beginning of the second half of summer.
If I lived way up north I too might celebrate the days of longest sunlight. But down here in the Southwest — where it’s often sunny even in winter — I’m more aware of when the temperature starts dropping at night. I treasure good sleeping weather. And the days are getting shorter.
In fact, this has mostly been a great — but lazy — summer for me. But I’m amused at what different people celebrate, and what they call midsummer.

It always makes me sad when we are on the downside of summer and moving into autumn. I love that season but it means that winter isn’t far behind. I crave the sunshine and the warmth. I could do without the humidity but I do like the heat.

What an interesting mark of midsummer. I like it! Start of school always felt too early to signal the end of summer. You do get great winter sun. I noticed the sunrise was 10 minutes later today (here) compared to the longest day of the year, and I suppose that will start accelerating sooner than later.

To me, midsummer means I am about to become a year older. Better than not doing so. Although, I am at an age now where I wouldn’t mind not living to see another birthday. I’m not in any hurry but I would no longer mind. I’ve pretty much been everywhere and done everything on my list but I still enjoy my simple days.

As crazy at might sound…as long as it’s Hot, I call it Summer. I actually think that Texas has Summer 3/4ths of the year. This summer seems to be hard on me…too hot and really humid

Living in the far north I am not liking the idea being pushed to be on daylight saving time year round. We won’t see dawn until around 9am. Couldn’t help throwing that in here. I have come to really dislike summer so it cannot end soon enough.
I know about the disadvantages for year-round daylight savings time in the north. Fingers crossed.
