I asked ChatGPT,
What do people mean by happiness?
And — true to its name “Chat” — it had a lot to say. I like the way it ended:
Given some of the themes we’ve discussed before—coherence, living up to one’s potential, Stoicism, and meaning—I find it useful to think of happiness as an umbrella term with at least three distinct parts:
Feeling good (positive emotions)
Living well (acting in accordance with your values and developing your capacities)
Judging your life as worthwhile (meaning and satisfaction)A person can have one without the others. The richest lives often include all three, though not necessarily at the same time. During difficult periods, meaning and purpose may remain strong even when positive emotions are scarce, and many people later look back on those periods as among the most valuable in their lives.
That certainly has been true for me. What about you?

END of next week!
Good luck! I”m looking forward to reading all about it.
Awesome answer. I totally agree with it too. Personally I think all the negatives in our life are necessary in order for us to appreciate true happiness
🙂
That cartoon reminds me of Zoe…
🙂
I guess I have a different take on happiness. I think contentment is the actual word. I’m happy on occasions; I get a puppy. A friend from long ago calls. Bouquet of flowers arrives. I see a brilliant sunset. Mostly I live in contentment.
That’s good. 🙂
I agree…. Happiness is all around us…we need only to be still and pick up on those vibes. Even on the bad days, it’s so nice to find a bit of happiness in knowing that “This too shal pass.”
🙂
Yes, the cartoon sums it up nicely!
🙂
…happiness is different for us all.
🙂
I think one thing to add is being relatively pain free. But I agree with the rest!
Yes, pain makes it so hard.
Chat gpt is good at gleaning what others have learned through experience and summarizing it. I agree with what it wrote but it has not lived through anything. I have a problem with AI I guess:)
I love AI for deep conversations. It’s especially valuable when I disagree with it.
I love how you, too, have embraced AI. It really can add value and clarity to ours lives when we ask the right questions.
Yes! Asking the right questions is the trick.
I totally agree. For the first time. Not always perfect, but Life is Good!
🙂
