Progress Report

Andy had only one episode a day Monday and yesterday, so today he tried walking down to the orchard — about a half mile and a couple of hundred feet elevation difference. He had one episode in the orchard, one when he got back to the house, so he will skip that walk for a couple more days. He is now filling out the LONG questionnaire for Mayo, trying to give them information about his symptoms so they can decide who he should see.

I’m continuing to read reports about carotid artery dissections, and the articles are encouraging — it sounds like taking Plavix plus aspirin for a while is the preferred treatment.

Onwards and upwards and all that sort of stuff.

Andy doing experiments where n=1 is a good thing. It’s the best way to find out what really works for YOU.

Yes, he thinks every episode is probably doing a little damage, so he wants to minimize it, but he wants to know what is going on.

  2. listening to your body and Andy is doing that… sometimes “less is more” – although in Andy’s case he will have to decide what “more” might be for now…

I know he doesn’t want to give up his land activities and possibly also you don’t want him to either – but you might have to find something else to keep Andy on an even keel…

a 3 month wait to within the walls of Mayo clinic – can be fast or slow wait…

“you might have to find something else to keep Andy on an even keel…” It’s a nuisance that he has to give up his daily walk right now, but hopefully it’s not permanent, and he can still drive up there every day. Fingers crossed the treatment works.

Great going. Unless he tries, he wouldn’t know whether he is progressing or not. All the best.

I took Plavix and a low dose aspirin for years after my LAD stent. this new cardio took me off the Plavix. one always wonders why some are so radical and others aren’t. but I no longer take it. still take the aspirin. and am on the other blood thinner … the old standby Warfarin.
as you wrote I wondered if the elevation up on the land has anything to do with it. it would be a shame but it’s always a possibility.
he’s doing well to just keep the episodes to at least only one or two a day.
does he like to read… like you do? or explore the internet at all? there are so many interesting things to learn about. I mean it wouldn’t have to be blogging for him. lol I know that’s NOT his bag!

Tammy’s comment, “I wondered if the elevation up on the land has anything to do with it,” made me wonder if Andy has tried walking at the elevation of your apartment? Not nearly as scenic but another data point available to him.

I’m late answering these, and at the moment he’s doing a lot better. Thursday he cleared two trees off the road on the way up and later walked down to the orchard and back with no problems. Fingers crossed it continues.
