The Trouble With Plowing…

is where to put the snow.

The plow pushes the snow off to the sides of the road, but if there is no drop off on either side the snow accumulates — the road gets narrower and narrower with each storm.

Andy figures he can handle one more snow, but after that he might need to walk part of the way. As usual, fingers crossed.

it IS a problem! I remember in upstate NY and MN… it got piled so high that people could see at intersections if traffic was coming. so you used a tall antenna with a red flag attached!
    that’s way too much snow!

That would not be a place I would like to have that problem…I do hope it is a while before you have more.

In the old days we got snowed out every winter, and we did last winter too. But that was rare, mostly the winters are mild, and short compared to most parts of the country. The snow is already starting to melt on our road and we’re not worried.

  3. That’s always the issue, especially if you don’t remember to over plow the sides at the beginning of the winter. How is that extra piece of wood holding up that he added to the plow?

    • Jean says:

I’m going to talk about that tomorrow. The wood was fine, the metal wasn’t strong enough to do the job. So it’s back to the drawing board.

  4. aha, I learn so much about “snow”…never really thought about that aspect.

I know here in some rural areas the grader rejigs the gravel back into the actual roadway – but cars just make a 2 lane, with their wheels and suddenly it’s a banked up too much…especially if the road is a popular holiday destination, many cars to the beach etc in the summer…the wheel ruts can get very difficult to negotiate at times…

Yes that does get to be a problem. You can only pile it up so high or push it so far.
