Two Other Problems With Plowing…

ditches and drop offs.

It’s a nuisance to pull a truck out of a ditch, but misjudging the edge of the road and the beginning of a drop off could be fatal.

That’s why Andy tried building an extension for the plow.

It turns out the wood held fine, but the metal was too weak:

So it’s back to the drawing board to design a stronger one. Add it to the list of projects.

  1. interesting on the “metal issue” when I would’ve thought the wood would have been the issue…still gotta have “em projects” 🙂

I bet you and Andy is as resourceful as Roger and me…you will probably figure it out.

    • Jean says:

Yes. Andy is very resourceful, and he already knows approximately what he will try next. It’s fun having problems like that to solve, isn’t it?

  3. Ann Thompson says:

Nuisance yes but I would much rather be in a ditch than rolling down the other side.
I bet Andy will have that extension redesigned in no time.

kudos always for patience! I guess the snow is there to stay for awhile?

    • Jean says:

The extension is most effective on new snow. I’m not sure it would be useful this late in the season, especially because the snow is starting to melt and refreeze. Andy thinks if the snow melts and gets soft enough it could be pushed off the road before new snow comes. We’ll have to see when a new version gets built — I will let you know.

  5. I don’t know how I missed this post! I’m glad to see the follow up on the wooded extension. County trucks around here have them so I knew the principle would work but I’m shocked that the wood held up but not the metal!

    • Jean says:

We were surprised about that too. We’ll let you know when he tries again with a stronger design. It’s a fun experiment, for me, at least, since I’m not doing the work. 😀
