I finally took the time to start upgrading our computers to Big Sur, the latest Mac operating system. I waited for a few months so they could catch the worst of any bugs, and I checked with Bitdefender (antivirus) and GraphicConverter (photo editor) to make sure they are still compatible. So far so good. I haven’t looked into the new features yet, and I’m guessing there are some changes I’ll like and some I won’t, but that’s the way it goes.
I keep reading about our need to stimulate our brains to keep them from deteriorating. Yeah, sure. When mine goes it won’t be because of lack of exercise, it will be because of overwork.

I am like you when it comes to new programs…I like to wait till they have been used a while before I use them.
It can save time and hassles. 🙂
I so agree with your last sentence. I told my husband just this week: “Remember when I was saying I was afraid I would be bored in retirement? Well, scratch that!” I volunteered to teach a girls’ mission group at church (since no one else would step up to the plate), and it has about worked me to death! I’m already trying to get up the courage to tell them at the end of this school year that I’m not doing it next year. Retirement should be a lazy, no commitments, just have fun time…right????
😀 Good luck! I got into a couple of situations like that early in my retirement. I eventually learned.
Big Sur is up and running here, haven’t noticed any issues. But I am not sure I would even recognize them:)
It took hours to download and install it, but it worked fine on one computer. On the other one the first installment didn’t work for some reason so it automatically tried again. I was surprised that it worked the second time. Who knows what happened?
The last bit of this post made me chuckle out loud, Jean! *haha* My kudos to you for even tackling a new operating system. I do believe I would have given up and just got rid of my computer…. and used the one at the library (when it reopens after the virus)! ~Andrea xoxo
It took a long time but it worked. I did a backup just in case something went wrong. 🙂
Gosh, you know a lot about computer stuff!!
I’ve had a lot of experience, which is why I don’t expect things to go smoothly and am pleased when I’m wrong. 🙂
Well, I’ve never done anything like that – but I do work any of my PC’s right into the ground before they need replacing. Usually because the operating system has disappeared and things just won’t work…
Where I work at “overwork” is within my art practice! And actually I’m never really short of anything to play around with. Glue is the biggest “oh that’s running out or has run out” scenario. I bought some last week and then found I had some other tubes in another box…
Yes, you don’t require software to do your art. Hurray for that!
Sometimes I find it very frustrating that things are outdated and obsolete so quick. What happened to the phrase “If it aint broke don’t fix it”?
I know. 🙁
Making sure all the glitches are “fixed” beforehand makes a whole lotta sense.
I have learned from experience. 🙂
every single time THEY change something in our computers and devices my brain gets overworked. what makes me mad is when they change and don’t tell me… like when windows 10 came upon us, they warned and warned. but the updates that flip things to another way make me crazy, the last update on my phone has things i really hate
I know, I figured you could relate to this post. 🙂
I haven’t updated my operating system for a long while. But what annoys me more than the bugs in a new operating system is the constant updating of access to online banking. They keep adding new security steps so it takes longer and longer to reach my account. Roll on the day when all they need is to check my fingerprints!
I have sympathy for both of you. It’s frustrating, but the hackers are getting so good it’s best to have some protection. I recently read states have lost billions on unemployment insurance here because hackers (in Nigeria they think) filed false claims.
My Dave finally installed Big Sur this week but he has not authorized me to do so yet. 🙂
I sure do like have a systems administrator living with me.
I, of course, am the systems administrator/IT expert here. 😀
