I received a message at 11:50 this morning:
Just arrived. One tree down. 26F with stiff breeze!
I’m guessing he will mostly stay inside today? When he left this morning he said he was going to check to see if the daffodils had been creamed by the cold. We’ll see if we get any down in the orchard this year. This is what they looked like last year:
The plants up there have been having an extra tough time the past couple of years… early warm spells have enticed them to start coming out, then they have been hit with the later freezing temperatures.
No end of adventures.
April 13, 2022
That seems like a harsh cold snap for April? Is that common?
Beautiful ‘dils.
Not uncommon. Maybe this one is a bit harsher, but it’s the warm spells that are the main problem.
I hope he watches out for himself.
He does. His walk was just from the house to the greenhouse and back. We love how close the greenhouse is.
So, how far away Is he?
From here? About an hour’s drive when all goes well. .
tonight we are to have a frost and a freeze.
it was 88 degrees here yesterday. and in the 80’s today.
but then our Spring has always been like this. I hope Andy is SAFE.
that’s the main thing. XO
Yes, he’s safe and sound and tries to be careful.
our forecasted “bearing down on my region ex-tropical storm” didn’t follow the forecasters course and completely missed my region but then swooped in on another region at least 4 hours drive from here south!
it was a semi gloomy day but no rain or winds
today on the other hand gorgeous so I went vague bus hopping after I picked up my prescription – interesting interlude…
That’s great you have a chance to get out a bit. 🙂
26 degrees? Too cold for me. I know I would stay inside.
Me too! No walks except maybe to the car and back. 🙂
Yikes on the temps, and it is great he can text and keep you aware.. an hour drive would keep me from going there. Not fond of riding in cars. It is wonderful he loves to go up there and it gives him things to do and now stay home and grow old in front of a TV … he is amazing to me the things he can do and does do them…
I wouldn’t like that long commute either, that’s why I go up for picnics, which are mini vacations. I’m glad he loves it. 🙂
I’m surprised the bulbs aren’t eaten over the winter by moles and chipmunks.
Critters don’t like daffodils, that’s why we’ve planted so many of them. 🙂
I am hoping we are past those temps but it has been a crazy year here. One day had a 30 degree temperature change. Hoping the daffodils survived.
Most of them did. The ones in the orchard are safe because they haven’t started coming up yet, and he brought home a few from a south-facing slope that survived. Location makes a big difference.
This makes me want to run out and buy some bulbs of our own!
How I hope this year’s blooms survived the latest whammy.
I remember when the community center had lovely gardens throughout, sporting all sorts of blooms akin to a rainbow.
Spring flowers do perk up the spirits. 🙂
