I was intrigued by the title of this book, so I started reading the sample. Why the word “diet”? Beck says when the word first entered the English language it meant a way of living or thinking. A few decades later it also meant “a day’s journey.” That reminded me of Matsuso Basho’s,
Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home.
To me that means life isn’t about accomplishment/reaching goals, it’s how we live our individual minutes and days. If we live them well we are grounded, we are home.
Anyway, I’ve been on my own “joy diet” for years so I was curious to see what Beck has to say. The very first step was an eye opener because it doesn’t apply to me. That revelation alone was worth the price of the book for me. I’ll talk about that tomorrow.
Would I recommend the book? Not to most people, but I’m guessing there are some things in it I’ll agree with.

“….individual minutes and days. If we live them well we are grounded, we are home.”
I like those words very much.
🙂
I’ve found that most things I read like this seem rather impractical for me.
A lot of them are.
waiting to see what the first one says now that you say it doesn’t pertain to you…
🙂
I’m curious to hear more!
… but the cynic in me no longer buys into this sort of promised treasure.
We’ll see.
I’m waiting patiently to hear more.
🙂
I can’t wait to find out the revelation!
🙂
Haven’t heard of it. I could use some joy in my life.
It can take some exploring at first, but it’s well worth the time.
