Bless You, Gus and Kim

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about Gus over at Kim’s Life at Golden Pines. At the time Kim wrote,

He has increasingly more difficulty getting around than before, and needs us to help him more. … But Gus keeps trying and there is no doubt he’s just as happy as he was the first day he came to us. That’s all that matters.

Gus has now passed on and Kim has written a touching tribute, Remembering Gus’s Lessons on Life. Bless you, Gus and Kim, for being such inspirations.

    I’m so stupid.
I’m getting ready for work and I just put on my mascara.
and then I went and read Kim’s tribute.
    Silly me.
I’m not strong enough to hold back the tears.
    Such a loving tribute.
    and such an amazing woman.
The world needs more people like Kim, that’s for sure.
I am so thankful that Gus was with her at the end of his journey here on earth.
and thankful that he now can run free.

What a beautiful dog, and it sounds as if he was full of personality, too. Our current golden “talks” to us a lot as he ages, especially since his companion golden died almost a year ago. What a wonderful gift Kim gave this dog, to love him and to ease his pain when it was time.

i discovered kim years ago and have followed every post and every loss.
once i had to quit visiting golden pines. it was just too hard.
then i realized… what i was missing. how silly of me to abandon a blog i love. because of the pain of loss. or fear of it. she lives with it and understands it as part of life.
all the golden times with the incredible goldens… and charlie and little todd.
and now.. a black lab in the mix! it’s so worth the sometimes sadness.
she is one of the most amazing people i’ve ever known. to do all she does and hold down a full time job.
and gus. well. a dog named gus. he just stays right there in your heart.
he had all the courage required. he put us humans to shame. they all do. xoxo

I agree Gus was a gem, but I think you’re being a bit too harsh when you say “he put us humans to shame. they all do.” Don’t forget, Kim is a human too. And an inspiring one. 🙂
