School Lockdown

One of our elementary schools was locked down the other day because of a bobcat sighting. The time before it was because of a bear. No one is complaining.

i’m glad no one is complaining.
although i wouldn’t be leaving my dog or cat out at night.
    but then i wouldn’t anyway. 🙂

Bobcats are small, about twice the size of a cat, so big dogs are no doubt safe. Cats and small dogs are probably more in danger of coyotes or an occasional mountain lion. Yes, it’s best to keep them inside at night.

  2. I’m glad that no one is reacting badly, and causing a panic. Wildlife should be left alone. Of course, precautions should be taken.

When I said no one is complaining I was comparing it to why lockdowns usually happen. A bobcat runs from people, unlike school shooters. We’re very lucky.

  3. I just can’t imagine any of those animals roaming around here!

    • Jean says:

Thata’s understandable. You live in an urban setting, not next to a national forest.

    • nothing to do with urban setting – we just don’t have those types of animals on the loose here – some in zoos…

    • Jean says:

Oh, yeah! I should have known that. I just looked up your animals and NZ is the “land of birds.” And a lot of your birds are flightless because there were no predators to worry about. Cool! The joy of having blogging friends in different countries. Thank you!

    • our biggest predator are “dogs” and there are some nasty ones for sure…but they mightn’t cause a “lock down” – our other predator is the “human” the ones that are nasty-as, some with guns or high on drugs…or just plain nasty.

Very common for wild animals and snakes to be sighted in rural India and some parts of urban India bordering on woods. Life simply goes on. Here is an old story close to my home.

    • Jean says:

Sure. I think it’s charming here. Our sightings are seldom dangerous because the wild animals are afraid of humans. The big danger is bears getting into garbage and losing their fear of humans.

  5. A few times school been locked down because of bear and or cougar in area.
    Coffee is on

    • Jean says:

Yes, bears can be dangerous because they’re big and unpredictable. Mountain lions tend to avoid people, but one fellow tussled with one in the dark in his backyard when the lion tried to kill his dog.
