There is a time to let things happen and a time to make things happen.
—Hugh PratherWhen the wind stops it’s time to start rowing.

On the other hand, the ideal of a friend of mine is to live a life without purpose, just drifting along enjoying every moment as it happens.
I’m not that passive. I’m all for joyful living, but I agree with the song Row, Row, Row Your Boat:
Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily
Life is but a dream
Some rowing is not amiss.
What about you? Do you like a balance between letting things happen and making things happen?

I don’t know that I consciously row every day or not row!
but I seem to have a sixth sense to help me when I need to row.
like selling my little house. I decided over the Christmas holidays which is a notoriously bad time to sell a house. and yet it sold in 6 days. I’m glad I rowed that time! 🙂
It doesn’t have to be every day, your sixth sense is an ideal way to know when it’s time.
My biggest challenge in life is to let go and let things happen. So I guess I’m a compulsive ‘rower’!
I now mostly have a balance that works for me. It took some practice getting here!
To be honest I’ve been having a real internal struggle of late.
I’ve been letting things happen and suddenly I feel like I need to row like hell.
Problem is, I’m not sure where I want to row to.
:/
It sounds as if you need to take some time out to figure out what to try next. That’s a different kind of rowing, I guess. Anyway, good luck! We’re rooting for you,
oh I’ve been dreamily-along for years…unless something untoward happens then I may row faster, but I settle down to gently drifting with my fingers just trailing along the ebb…
Anyone as creative as you are does a lot of rowing! It doesn’t have to be unpleasant or frantic, it can be deeply fulfilling.
I use to row all day every day. Now I just drift. I got a lot done in my rowing days but I’m getting more fun from my drifting days.
I’m a firm believer in moodling time.
I bet that I am that friend.
Not a risky bet. 😀
One size doesn’t fit all — we’re all different, the trick is to find out what works for us.
