Interesting Email

I cleaned out my spam folder today. I usually don’t read anything in it unless something has clearly had been tagged incorrectly, but today was different. The subject line on one of them was a password I use on sites I don’t care about, and the contents said the author has been looking into me and knows my secret. Apparently they’ve made a video that they will use to humiliate me unless I pay them $3200 in bitcoins.

I deleted the email, so they supposedly they’ll distribute the video to all of my friends. If anyone does get it, please let me know — I can’t for the life of me figure out what would look like.

Thank you!

i’m sorry to laugh. but great scot and cat house Thursday! what extents they bother to go to.
I’ve been getting call after call recently telling me I have bad knees and a bad back and they can help me. if they worked as hard at a real job as they do in scamming people….
and to use a classic oxymoron… GOOD GRIEF!

I wonder how successful this one is. They clearly don’t know how old I am — at our age if we ever had a dark secret we’ve probably forgotten it. A poor memory is as good as a clear conscience?

That is the craziest thing I’ve ever heard of and if I get the movie, I’ll let you know! πŸ™‚ I do have to wonder how many people will/would actually fall victim to this scam and pay up because they’re worried about people finding out their secrets.

  4. I get all sorts of useless ads and offers in my spam folder, but never an actual threat! My first reaction was that you should report itβ€”but to who?

    • Jean says:

That’s also the first threat I’ve received. If I didn’t use that password on a number of sites I would tell the owner of the site that they’ve been hacked. Although it may be my password at Smucker’s and they were hacked quite a few years ago. They made me a loyal customer by telling me about it and giving me free ID protection for two years.

I suspect that you would look like Annie Shotgun Oakley. I shall promptly send the ransom money to them to set you free so that you can take them on.

This is a riot! I think I’ll go look in my spam folder now. πŸ™‚
